Default Relocation Allowance

Hi All,

Plans for my move to Toronto are coming nicely together now. Got a question that I hope somebody might be able to answer? Does anybody know how relocation allowances are generally handled by Canadian companies? Will I get taxed on the allowance or is it tax free like in the UK?

Cheers,

P

AS costs related to moving within Canada are tax deductible when you have to move for employment reasons, I would imagine that they won't give you 2 bites of the apple, so expenses paid by the Company I doubt would be tax deductible.

But I am not an Accountant.

Here is an October 2007 thread called tax and relocation allowances.

There is a Wiki article called Taxes during immigration-Canada. However, the issue of relocation allowances, which I believe is pertinent to the article, is missing from it.

When this thread has run its course, I'll extract the salient points from this thread and from the other one to which I provided a link in my earlier post, and add them to the article (unless someone else beats me to it).
