Hey everyone - i'm new to this thing, my parents have an account so i thought i'd make one...

We moved from Basingstoke in North Hampshire to Orleans, Ottawa... And I'm building a professional studio in the basement of our new house (sound-proofed walls etc) - but, i have absolutely no clientele yet.. so if anybody has kids that rap or sing or anything please contact me!!!! if you think your daughter/son has got a great singing voice and you want her/him recorded, i will set an introductory price for you!! i just need to get things up and running lol!

Also, if you happen to know any stores in and around the Ottawa area that sell audio recording equipment like condensor microphones/mixers/reference monitors... please PLEASE let me know lol, im desperate!!!!

By the by im 18years old, and I am very savvy for my age when it comes to sound engineering - if you want a demo of my skills jus let me know!!

Just to get back to your original post!If you're looking for clients (and you may have already done this) it would be a good idea to set up a My Space site and advertise on Craigs lists to get in contact with bands and musicians. My OH is a guitar tech. and when he's not on tour with bands he works in our basement repairing guitars and Amps. etc. Just be prepared for the cheapness of musicians (particularly Canadians) you may end up having to do a few things for free just to get your name around. Also it might be worth printing up a few business cards and going to a few local gigs.Good luck

The MySpace idea is excellent....also see if there's an "alternative" weekly newspaper around.... in Toronto there's a publication called "Now" in which you can read adverts or advertise your services.

Yeh, I realise that i may have to do a few free jobs until im heard about, 'tis a shame... But hopefully I can bring in all the 'gangsta' clientele... all the youth who do gangsta-rap and think that they're good at it, they're usualy naive enough to pay-out lol! - Let's just hope that pans out ok!

And as for the myspace idea, I have one but it's dedicated to me as an artist not a sound engineer, because i'm hoping to get gigs around clubs etc - which brings me to another issue... how many nightclubs are there actually in ottawa, i've only seen 2?! what is wrong with this place?! I NEED TO DANCE!!! lol.

Are there "gangsta rappers" in Ottawa? Sounds like you need to move to Toronto. Just tell you dad I'm sure he'd be delighted!!
