Hi we will be immigrating to Edmonton in March 2012.
I have been looking on the web at places to rent without much success.
Can anyone recommend a Realtor(s) I can deal with, via email or phone from the UK.
Any advice on this topic would also be gratefully appreciated.

We are moving to Vancouver in Jan and had the same problem as you. It seems that Realtors dont have rentals on their books in the same way as we do here in the UK, there are some specialist agents but you really have to hunt them out. Places on the internet like craigslist are to be avoided unless you are actually in Canada as you need to see the property and the landlord for security reasons.

What we have done is get a short term holiday let (an apartment in someone's basement) for the first month initially. You should be able to get one quite cheap being out of the high season, then you will be able to do a proper search for something longer term whilst you are there.

As an addition to the above, I have heard that landlords tend to advertise rentals via a board in the front garden so it pays to be there first and take a walk/drive round the neighbourhood searching out the boards.

Try Rentboard etc look at properties if you dont see anyhting you like contact the realtors on there for other properties they have..some do advertise on site like this.

The realtors in our office (I'm a realtor) have been hearing good things about www.rentaladvisors.ca

I've not had a client yet who has dealt with them, but they may be worth a try. You can also try www.rentfaster.ca and you can look on Edmonton Kijiji.

Do a little research on www.landlordandtenant.org before you sign anything. Knowing something about your rights as a renter here in Edmonton will be helpful. It is quite different to the UK.
