Reccie is Underway!!!

Re: Reccie is Underway!!!
Hello Everyone,
Well, we're underway with our recce now and i'm actually typing this from our hotel in Halifax, it's so surreal to actually be here!
We arrived at Halifax international yesterday afternoon and got through customs ok! It was a long day for us though as we set off from home at 3:30am GMT but everything did go a lot smoother than we thought, especially as we had to transfer at Heathrow and didn't know where to go! Both flights were fantastic and we really couldn't fault either airline (we flew BMI and then Air Canada) and found that especially on the Air Canada flight that the customer service was excellent.
We arrived at the hotel about an hour before we could check in so we were ready to go for a drink in the bar, but the receptionist informed us our room was ready and that we could go straight up!
Today has been amazing, we had a wander down to the harbour front and took in some of the sites and bought a few souvenirs, we then walked back up the hill towards Spring Garden Road to have a look at the shops and then get some lunch, we wanted to find a bar/pub with some sport and finally found one (will not name it) and were told that because we didn't have passports (we did have our driving licenses) that even though we didn't want anything alcoholic that we couldn't stay there...is this normal? We then walked up the road and ended up in My Fathers Moustache and had a fabulous lunch then went up to the roof terrace and had a drink and just took in the surroundings before wandering back on past the public gardens and down past the citadel.
We're really looking forward to this evening and just wanted to post what an amazing time we're having even though we've only been here 24 hours, but we really do feel at home in the city...everyone we've met has been really friendly and obviously the weather at the moment is excellent and not really what we were expecting but we're not complaining. Just looking forward to the rest of the trip now!
Thank for reading!

Re: Reccie is Underway!!!
It's now day three of our recce and we're loving every minute of it! Just been having more of a look round Halifax in the last couple of days...ended up getting soaked yesterday though as the heavens opened and we did not have any coats/waterproofs etc but to be fair, it's not like getting soaked in England because it was still rather warm!
Been on the ferry today and had a little look around Dartmouth and then realised that there's just kinda residential stuff to do, although we stopped in a local bar for a drink! Walked down past Keiths Brewery as well and explored that side of the city! Have to admit though, we knew that Halifax was kinda on a hill but didn't fully appreciate how steep the hills would be lol, so just getting used to that as well!
We're gonna be getting onto the more serious stuff though in the next couple of days i.e. speaking to job agencies etc and looking at neighborhoods if anyone has any suggestions?

Re: Reccie is Underway!!!
As we have said in previous mail give us a call, our inlaws are out at the moment but would be good to help with any local questions. Your Fathers Moustache was the first Pub we experienced on our Reccie 4 years ago, great place to eat and drink isnt it

Re: Reccie is Underway!!!
Hi Everyone,
Thanks Helen for the info on the neighborhoods! We're planning to come over next year on a temp visa and then hopefully (if everything goes to plan ) transfer that into a full LMO and then get PR when we can!
How have you found everything since you got here and when abouts are you thinking about coming for good? How have you found it whilst you've been here and are there any places that you would recommend visiting?
Thanks
Becca & Paul

Re: Reccie is Underway!!!
Hi Paul and Bec, glad you are enjoying your stay. We landed in June and rented a place in Woodlawn, Dartmouth for a while, very suburbia but nice. we now have a hobby farm near Windsor and are loving every minute. We are setting up a boarding stables for horses, a dream in the UK but here, reality. Moving here will be the best thing you'll ever do, Joanne and I have only been here 3 months but there's no way we would ever go back to the UK to live.
If you get a chance to come up this way let us know and we'll put the kettle on!
Enjoy the rest of your stay.
