Hi again,
I'm looking at making our first recce
(i think thats the right word!!) to NS in August whilst my OH is away. Just after a few tips, we're looking at saying in Truro as after spending many hours scouring the internet it seems an alright place to us. The problem that i have is that i am too young to get a hire car (only 23) so i need transport of some sort from the airport to Truro. Can anyone give me any tips about the place and what the transport links are like. I'll have my 2 yr old daughter with me as well so i need the minimum hastle. Also any general info about truro would be a massive help. Been recommended the bakers chest for a b & b anyone every been there?
Sorry for yet another bombardment of questions!!

I stayed there once and had a pizza delivered from somewhere called Gracos or something sounding like that. They had a menu in the hotel....BIG mistake. I was ill for 3 days afterwards!
I thought Truro was ok but it is the only place I've experienced being treated as an outsider. The hotel I stayed in had a bar attached to it which was mainly used by locals. It was a big bar but quite empty, I was deliberately ignored for about 5 minutes even when there was no one else at the bar, the woman just pretended to be busy sorting something out behind the bar. Then a local would walk in and she'd serve them, then back to pretending to be busy again and ignoring me. It made me feel very uncomfortable as all eyes were on me. But I stayed put until I got my drink. Not a pleasant experience and I didn't go back in there again.
As for car hire, I didn't know 23 was too young what is the minimum age?
I'm sure Truro is very nice and my experience was the exception but for me I won't be rushing back there.

At most Avis locations in Canada, the minimum age to rent an Avis vehicle is 25.
In certain situations or at certain locations, the minimum age may be 21.
In some instances a surcharge may apply for renters under age 25. Please check with Avis at 1-800-879-2847 for details.
So I'd have a trawl around and try it on with a few companies... it may be that if you explain the situation (and also that you're travelling with a small child - that may work in your favour as you won't come across as a hooligan!) they'll rent you a car, although you may have to pay a premium for additional insurance. In certain situations or at certain locations, the minimum age may be 21.

on edit: Thrifty have a minimum age of 21, but with a surcharge for under-25's - worth further investigation? http://www.thrifty.com/contacts/FAQ.aspx#10
