Recce completed
Just back from a very productive recce trip to Red Deer, Alberta.
We met up with Julie and Bill ( "The Rhodeys" plus Chloe their springer spaniel ) and enjoyed a meal, very informative chat and trip around Red Deer, as well as visiting their beautiful home.
Mandy had a tour around Red Deer Hospital and met the staff on the ward where she will be working.
Kev had an informal meeting at Trail Appliances with a view to being employed as a Repair Technician, and was offered a job as Service Manager, well worth the trip.
We spent half a day with a realtor and viewed 4 houses which gave us a much better idea of house sizes, layouts, etc.. He has also offered to help us with a rental property when we move over, and called a mortgage advisor to confirm what paperwork if any we would need, and the likelihood of us getting a mortgage. All very positive.
Visited Red Deer City Hall, met some extremely friendly and helpful people, we were invited to visit the Mayor, but he'd just gone into a meeting.
We spent some time ourselves driving around Red Deer looking at the different sub divisions, even took a drive out to Sylvan Lake, but decided it wasn't right for us for making a home.
We spent time looking around various stores / supermarkets comparing prices and availability of products. Even bought a laptop as it was cheaper than in UK. Tried the coffee in Tim Horton's but couldn't see what all the fuss is about, Kev found it too mellow for him. We both enjoyed the hot chocolate though.
All in all we had a very productive trip, met some lovely people, got a better idea what the city and it's environs are like and gained lots of info to ease our move across, when it happens.
Arrived back home on Thursday evening and had somebody come to view our house on Friday.
Just need to wait now for CHC to get their fingers out.
Sorry for the long post but everything seems to be becoming a reality, not just a dream.
Wish us luck,
Kev & Mandy

With all the talk about the economy and job cuts, it's great to read a positive thread like this. I'm so glad the research trip worked out well for you and the job offer is fantastic news. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly for you now. Great post - Samantha
