Oh no, I think I better start doing some 'google-ing'!!! :banghead:

You'll get it once you get here... once you’re doing the same old thing you did back home..

Watching TV, buying the weekly groceries, going to work, and driving the commute...

The labels are different, the location is different, but overall as a 1st world nation you’ll be doing the same things in the same way with the same problems and attitudes as you would in any other 1st world nation.

and to add to the fun, you bring ‘you’ when you emigrate, you might be surprised how much of ‘your’ baggage and ‘your’ issues will follow you

Yep, 1st time being on the receiving end of that piece of verbal abuse can be an eye opener for some…

Not legal to leave it stored loaded in your house, not legal for your neighbour to borrow it unless he has a licence and a copy of the registration certificate. There is an exemption to storing it loaded if you are hunting and in a camp.

At least in Canada they specify what the legal method of transport is, unlike the UK where there is no clear guidance, just "reasonable precautions" must be taken, which basically means if the police pull you over, you're in trouble.

Legal laying on the back seat of the open car or in the truck bed then.

It is not necessarily true, at least not in my experience.

Firstly, in somewhere like BC, it is a much shinier bucket.

Secondly, emigrating gives you a fresh start. The **** can smell a lot sweeter.

There are some not very nice places in and around Vancouver. However, they don't need to be part of your life and experience unless you choose let them.

Bingo!

Most UK immigrants can afford to buy themselves a better lifestyle here - be it the larger home, more space, nicer type of area, whatever.

They cannot always afford to buy themselves these things by moving 200 miles up or down the M1.

We have been able to buy into a little slice of loveliness here - not quite utopia, but it ticks many boxes. But we came from leafy Surrey so to be honest , not that much has changed apart from ditching a massive mortgage. Less people and traffic, and free parking :sneaky: (Worth emigrating for?)

To move to the UK now would mean losing a third of my square footage, living semi-detached from my neighbours and taking on a minimum of 175kGBP mortgage. That doesn't maintain my lifestyle here - but it will bring about proximity to orange squash and friends and family. Mmmmmm.

This i agree with. A change of scenery is what some people may need to reinvigorate their lives from their current disillusionment within themselves.

Another thing I think happens, once you start to settle in, is your memory about your life in the UK starts to fade, and you start to only remember the good parts. I remember feeling pretty resentful about living in the UK before I left, but I often forget exactly why and have to really think about it to remind myself of the reasons. Memory is referential, you need something to remind you of something particularly to bring back your memory of it, and when something does not exist in Canada, you can forget it existed in the UK simply because you are never reminded of it again.

Here it never even crosses your mind that you left a $2000 lawn tractor unprotected overnight in the middle of the yard, or that someone might nick the kids bikes from the front yard.

Got to disagree with this Iain, I never feel anything less than safe here, and as somebody that frequently leaves the car sitting unlocked all night (and has even left keys in the front door on a few occasions - whoops!), you can tell that I'm not that worried about things being nicked either. The kids bikes are currently on the front drive, where they've been since Saturday too. :o
