Try not to worry Claire - we did the same I came out in Jan 06 and the OH plus kids in April. It's a short period of stress that you'll soon put behind you in your new and exciting country !!

If you have kids make sure you get a letter from your OH stating that he's aware you're travelling with the kids and has his permission etc. We were reminded about this by a friend at the last minute and the OH was asked to produce it by border services.

Can't comment on the one way ticket thing as we weren't asked.

Assuming you have a PR visa or work permit, there should be no problems with having a one-way ticket. However, if you're worried then check with the airline that they will let you board with one; they all should.

Hi CM

Been here done this and got the T shirt

I was worried exactly the same as you as Phil had already been in Canada for 5 months when I eventually landed - I worried about the paperwork not being correct, about the kids fighting in immigration office - you name it and I worried about it

The only things which I took were a copy of Phil's positive LMO and a copy of his actual WP - get hubby to scan it and email it to you - and the IO barely looked at it

I just went to passport booth and said that I was wanting to get a SOWP and he directed me through to immigration. Told the IO exactly the same and answered any questions he asked - can't remember what they were exactly - but anything he asked I answered honestly and of course paid up the dosh for the SOWP and then went on my merry way.

I also took Goods to follow lists - B4's. These list the goods in your possession on landing and also those to follow in any container if you are shipping - think these are the forms which I worried about most of all but when I got to POE customs weren't that bothered about them and I had spent ages on them so that they were perfect There is a WIKI page on the GTF lists so take a look at those may make them a bit easier.

listen hun - DONT WORRY !!!

good luck hun

Wow, I'd forgotten about that, Gay.

Yup, Clairemaire, I remember a whole thread in which we tried to convince Gay that immigration officers also had children and that they wouldn't turn her family away if her kids behaved badly.

As she says, she earned her T-shirt all right.

Now here's a T-shirt. You can have it for free. I absolve you of all the worries that you'd usually have to suffer in order to earn it.

Easier said than done, eh?

This was our scenario:

Hubby here on 3 month work permit (he needed to sit and pass his exam).

Me and daughter on one way flights.

We got to immigration, we were the only ones in the queue. Went upto the desk, told the officer out intentions, he said that he could only issue us a 6 month visitor permit due to hubbies short one and welcome to Canada.

Good Luck xox

Claire, I came on a one way ticket no one asked me why, I came after Mal and as I wasn't able to apply for a work permit they only gave me a visitors stamp and sent me on my way. Everyone I've spoken to have different stories but they are all positive.

Keep your chin up!
