RCMP no longer need to be a Canadian Citizen
As of 1st of May 2016 you can apply to the RCMP as a permanent resident. I think the change in policy is due to low numbers of people applying?

Up until now, Mounties had to be Canadian citizens. But under the changes that took effect today, permanent residents who have lived in Canada for at least 10 years are eligible to apply.

You would have to wonder though why after 10 years a PR wouldnt have made up their mind by then to become a citizen but everybody has their personal reasons not to which has to be respected and joining the RCMP is a committment regardless

I have always thought about applying to the RCMP, but at 48 I'm probably to old now!!

. (Lack of) Round tuits sometimes happen... & some PRs would have to abandon their original citizenship.

No age limit quoted but guess as we all get older might fail hearing, eyesight and fitness. Chasing after criminals on horseback probably gets more uncomfortable the older you get as well.with the hip replacements.

Maybe they are from a country that frowns upon dual citizenship and have family or need to also maintain ties to their home country?
I've been here 10 years as a PR in November of this year, I have no real reason why I haven't applied, suppose more pressing issues to spend money on.
My MIL has been in Canada since 1970's and still has not went for citizenship, she has no reason why she hasn't, she just doesn't see a need.
Her brother has been in Canada just as long, and only received citizenship in 2015.
Some have reasons not to get it, others just never get around to doing it.

If I had better health, would be a job I'd have applied for, well in a few months when I have 10 years under my belt.
But no way I could ever pass the health requirements and such.
In my late teens police work was top of the list of jobs I wanted to do.
I also saw that those who have gone to university or college no longer need to take a screening test to screen aptitude for police work?

I've been a PR for almost 9 years and I made up my mind not to become 'Canadian' many years ago.

CBSA are now starting to adopt the requirements of what is required to join the RCMP. We do their PARE test
Preparing for the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation
They also do the RCMP firearms module and training which can differ from city police agencies.
If chasing anyone it would be a very short sprint as once the individual has left the port of entry you are limited to what you can do.
The 18 weeks at the College can be pretty strenuous and that is where most of the fitness is required.
I shall say no more.

If you have the opportunity to join a police force then DO IT.
CBSA are now starting to adopt the requirements of what is required to join the RCMP. We do their PARE test
Preparing for the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation
They also do the RCMP firearms module and training which can differ from city police agencies.

Been a PR just over 3 years now with absolutely no intention of gaining citizenship!

Everyone does their time in 'GD' (General Duty, driving from call to call) but many move on to different sections where being physically fit isn't as important as having a fit mind.
