As someone else pointed out, tell the bank where you are.

My UK-issued Visa card and Barclays cash card will not work in the UK unless I warn them that I will be there. Both issuers expect me to be using the cards in Canada.

Knowing that Scotiabank has a connection with Barclays in that respect will save us a few buck here and there. Thanks for the tip.
Here is the link. Look at the global ATM alliance tab.

http://www.scotiabank.com/ca/en/0,,316,00.html

I need to backpeddle a bit. It says no surcharges or access fees for using Barclays ATM machines. It doesn't say "free."

Now he tells me ... just been out and pulled 20k over 15 withdrawals

Thanks for the link also. Still has to be a saving here and there over going to any old UK ATM.

Hi
What rate you receive ? I've used the Halifax Clarity C/Card in the past gives you the MasterCard live rate which takes some beating.
https://www.mastercard.com/global/currencyconversion/
The card has no fees when used in TD ATM"s although Halifax do charge interest from day one but this is an easy get around just load the card with a positive balance (its possible) before you draw cash from it or pay online as soon as you draw down on the card if you are charged interest as a rough idea it would run at approx $1.50 for every 30 days you leave a balance of $150.00 on the card as a guide I always load a positive balance before i took cash out so did not get charged any interest. plus Halifax credit your account with 5 GBP every month you spend/withdraw 300 GBP . Withdrawals allowance is around $800 per day depends on exchange. Also time it right and you can draw twice in same day in Canada as it based on GMT 24 hr timelines.
Your not racking credit up on the card just drawing cash and paying it off straight away and doing this it can be a useful way to bring small to medium amounts of cash from UK without having to arrange money transfers etc.
hope this helps others
