Random bear question
I'm sorry if this wastes anyone's time but it's proving a little hard to find solid info else where...
Where are the best places in Canada to work (as a truck driver)... But be close to bears and awesome wildlife, especially bears when at home?
Thanks

Re: Random bear question
Do you already have PR?
It's just that if you don't, as a truck driver, you're not going to have much choice in which province you go to.
Even before the LMIA changes most truckers went to either MB or SK as that's where the demand was, but now it's even more limited as there seem to be almost no companies still hiring foreign workers! So unless you're already work authorised for Canada, you may just need to go wherever you can find an employer, regardless of the wildlife.
Once you've got PR (which isn't possible for truckers in all provinces, so that's another limitation to check in to), you can then move wherever you wish.
HTH, best of luck.

Thanks. No I'm still in the Uk but have wanted to move for some time. Is this an unlikely choice now? Will the LMIA problems iron out do you think?
If a company can only employ 30% of its workforce as immigrants... Is that canada wide or local. As i know a few companies who are nationwide in multiple states.
Thanks

I don't think it's an unlikely choice, but I do think you won't get much of a choice (if any) in where you end up, so I would focus on trying to find an employer prepared to sponsor you and then be prepared to just go wherever that is, even if it's somewhere without a bear within a 1000kms.
Do you have any other visa options, maybe a wife/partner that is more likely to get a job offer or qualify for a visa without a job offer being needed?

JRich....there is a truckers forum if you go to the Living and Moving Abroad bar at the top of the page. I think you'll find lots of helpful advice on there.
As for the wildlife...we don't have Grizzly Bears in the East, but I think most places in Canada in rural settings come with a checklist of animals and fantastic scenery.
Woodstock, not too far from me, has a number of trucking companies, and I remember that a couple of posters here have come with them via that route.
Best of luck

Re: Random bear question
Why would anyone want to be close to a bear? Why indeed would a bear want to be close to a human?
This has been posted before but it's worth repeating.

Re: Random bear question
I've seen at least one bear in almost every city I have lived in over here in BC, Vancouver was the only place where I didn't see one, but they are certainly in North Vancouver, but Vancouver may just be too hard to get to for the bears these days.
I see a few every year where I am now, usually in the spring after they wake up and want food and trash is easy food, then not so much in summer when food in the wild is more plentiful, and then they come back around right before going into sleep mode for winter, again trash is easy way for them to bulk up.
If you leave cat food in a bowl in your back yard around here, a bear will usually find it, or if you have an apple tree, berry bush, any fruit producing tree really will attract the bears.

Re: Random bear question
I would love to see a bear...just not terribly closely! I work with a bunch of people who hike, run and camp outdoors all year round and they've never seen very many bears, but we have lots in NB. They've said that the know they are near but they just don't come out. A colleague has a bear that regularly sits on her back deck though.
My son makes enough noise when we go for a walk That I will never see any wildlife...ever
Do you remember the poster we had last year (I think) who had one come into their kitchen and filmed it on the phone?

At the moment , I work for a company that operates polar bear tours in Churchill and I can't believe how many people pay thousands of dollars for a few days to see a polar bear close up...
