Rabies rules for immigrating pets from UK to Canada
#16
For entry into Canada you only have to show that they have had the vaccine....not that they have immunity to Rabies, so the blood test is not really necessary, unless you want them to have that for your reassurance.
So to recap, you only NEED to have your pet microchipped, up to date with their normal vaccines, a rabies jab and a fitness to fly certificate from the vet a couple of days before it flies.
I don't think that's actually correct. While giving your pet the rabies vaccine before you leave the UK is obviously advisable, it is not a requirement for entry into Canada. Because the UK is classed as rabies free, as long as the animal has been exclusively in the UK for the last 6 months (or maybe it was a year?) before entering Canada, then they can arrive without having been vaccinated against rabies at all. I know this as that is how we did it with ours, and then vaccinated against rabies at the local vets right away, after we arrived.
Edit to add:
It was 6 months - see q3: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/...anqueste.shtml

Hi
Thanks for that, however
I did read somewhere that if they had not been vaccinated against rabies, that you would have to pay to have them done on entry into Canada. or they would not release them to you.
If I had known that...what with her allergy issues....I might not have bothered and saved an awful lot of worry.
lol

<y 2 are chipped with diff UK companies - I just wrote to them to advise of new Canadian address and got letters back saying they had noted it on file. Plus our Canadian vets scanners read our uk chips!
