I don't understand football references

John Chambers uses a Mac. He's a pretty switched on guy.

What's a fanboy anyhow? Is it some sort of homoerotic connotation or fixation?

That's exactly it! Look over the web you will see them everywhere.
They annoy the hell out of me.
Their favorite words right now are "Fail" and "epic".
Im not knocking the genuine users of tech who know what they are doing with it. Im talking about the mindless idiots who only use something because they are told its good but don't even know really what is good about it.

I setup a tactical firearms training course in Switzerland before i moved out here and the instructor who came up with the techniques we taught wrote a great article on how there are Wolves, Sheep & Sheep dogs. The majority of the population are Sheep and just go along with whatever is shoved down their throats.

I think you're missing the point really.

Most computer users dont want, or need to know how to take their computer apart. Most dont want to add html signatures to their emails, because most people only use it to download stuff, surf the web, and maybe, maybe write some letters, do some basic spreadsheets etc.
Most people actually want a computer that they can plug in and not have to worry about getting someone else in to set up. They just want it to work, consistently, and not have to worry about shit going wrong.

I refer to the car comparison I made earlier. I dont know the first thing about how cars are made, or how they work. I know where the petrol goes, how to change wiper blades, refill the oil, and refill the screen wash. That's all I want and need to know. I want to be able to get in the car and drive, and live in comfort that if it goes wrong, I can get someone to fix it.
There are plenty of people who like to get under the hood and muck about- more power to them. But does that mean that they're the only ones who know a nice car when they see one?

How many Macs have you taken apart Hawk to do upgrades?
None actually, haven't needed to and that's kinda my point. It's simple (yeah maybe expensive) but for me, it's the right tool for now, especially for both of my two teenage girls - low maintenance.

Rather than quoting "jericho", he has it right. On the car thing, its the same. having owned my share of 0ld British sports cars that need tweaking to run, I don't take it to a garage but do it myself. That said, it doesn't mean I want to spend my weekends working of them when I could be driving. With the new cars most people haven't a clue how to fix one, they just want to drive it, computers are the same.

By the way, 2010 Cooper S and a 1976 Cooperized Mini

Thats my point though Hawk. You dont have the option. If you want anything done to it you are supposed to take it to them.
For your daughters use then yes you are right. Their needs are probably very basic. Ipads probably work for most kids now.
Send an email. Chat on facebook, do a homework project. They are what i would class as basic users.
For gamers and hardcore users though i would never recommend a Mac.
I have friends who have had to lose their Macs for days at a time whilst they waited for them to get repaired. That cant be true though as Macs dont go wrong do they?
Its all just clever marketing. Its an Apple cult.
Something goes wrong with my machine i fix it within hours. Simple.
Upgrading a computer should be relatively quick and easy.
A real car enthusiast will want to get under the hood and play around. Even saying that messing around with a car will take much longer then doing a simple upgrade on your computer. For example I have built 20+ machines from an empty case to a fully functional machine in a night before. Cant do the same with 20 cars so the comparison isnt even similar.

Its the same with their iphones. Another piece of kit Apple has locked down.
My buddy has the iphone and he got his mrs the Samsung GS2 and he now cant wait to upgrade his phone to the new GS3 when it comes out.
Android and open source all the way!

But the majority (vast majority) of users dont want to make their own upgrades. If Mac doesnt suit your needs, great, dont buy one.
For the people who just want a computer for general home use, not have to worry about replacing it in 12 months, etc etc, a mac ticks all the boxes.

Not sure why you're not getting it. Sure "you" can do it but the average Joe can't.

I guess if you're a computer guy but what if you're a mechanic that doesn't know his way around a computer?

For example I have built 20+ machines from an empty case to a fully functional machine in a night before
Yup, that's something the average Joe is able to do as well. I think you'd have more fun with a vintage car that needs tinkering, lol.

Anyway, stick with your PC and I'll stick with my Mac.

You are right with the phones though 'cus according to my girls they'd pick the Apple iphone - better "bling" factor I'm told.

Its not rocket science though. I showed my mate how to change the ram on a machine he just got given. He was shocked at how easy it was.
His friend gave it to him as he said it was too slow.
We spent $50 on 4GB of ram and its now gone from being a snail machine to more then fast enough for his basic need of sending emails and writing up a few invoices. Why spend thousands on a machine to do that?
I have never had to upgrade my machine every 12 months either Jericho.
Thats just overkill.
For home users who dont do much on a computer i said Macs are alright as they are just simple machines.
For business though unless you have stuck bootcamp on it, its useless as the majority of the world are using windows.

And if you read the original question the person posting here said specifically that her husband wanted to play games. Macs arent any good for that.
Most cheap PCs arent either.

My friend is a mechanic. I have helped him over the phone many times with his comp. He could take it apart and fix it with directions over the phone. He wouldnt need to take it anywhere.

My daugher is the same as your daughters with her ipod. I was going to get her either an Asus Transformer or a Samsung Tab but she wanted the ipad as her friends at school have them.
Open source is better. It openly encourages thinkers. How can i contribute to make this better?
Society is now all about following! Just look at FB and Twitter!

So if i ever see someone asking a question about which trainers others recommend for long distance running i will be sure to come on here and tell them how great my Diesel designer trainers are. I cant stand long distance running but hey i have two feet and wear trainers.
They are no good for running in but they look nice and they handle the conditions well. Those conditions being strolling around outside in the sunshine.
What im saying is i wouldnt bother posting as im not in a position to know what the hell im talking about. I lift weights, box, play football, bike ride, rock climb but long distance running isnt a past time i enjoy and so i wouldnt dilute that persons question with answers that didnt even relate to their question.

No, what you actually did was come on here and try to show how superior your knowledge of computers is and hurl around insults. "Fan boys", "sheep" etc.

Superior? Dont think so. There were plenty here who demonstrated a great understanding of how it all works.
They didnt big up Macs at all though.

And if "fan boy" and "sheep" is hurling insults then all i can say is wow!
You sure your from England?

I read an article once by a guy who used to work with some kind of high-reliability minicomputers or mainframes (I forget which) years ago. He said the best sales demo he ever saw was one company who would empty a .45 automatic into their demo computer while it was running to prove that it could happily continue to operate with broken hardware.
