If we bring our curtains over, are they likely to fit, and do they use the same type of hooks?
Thanks

Lots of the curtains here just have fabric loops at the top, or a sewn-in sleeve, which you just push the curtain pole through. It's very basic and sometimes the curtains are tight and don't pull through very well if the sleeve or loops are narrow. Otherwise, there are curtain hooks, but they are metal rather than the plastic ones we're used to in the UK. As in the UK, these hook into curtain tape and then attach to small hanging hoops on the curtain rail.
I've made some curtains for our house, but haven't been able to find any curtain tape to attach hooks to! I have had to get my mother in law to send it over. I get the feeling that curtains aren't popular here. Lots of houses don't have any window coverings at all, and many have net curtains or blinds. From my point of view, a pair of thick, lined curtains are ideal for keeping out the extreme temps outside, as well as fostering all the privacy and coziness you need.

, they are either too long, too short, or not wide enough, and they are low priority on our list of jobs to do. Will get around to them one day

For some strange reason most curtains are sold individually here
We too only have blinds.

You can get everything that you can get in the UK to do with curtains and fittings etc. at this chain of stores http://www.fabricville.com/
My nearest one is in Truro, NS next to Sobeys.

Ahhh the joys of tab top curtains, a good sewing machine, quality fabric and knowing how to make them
