Funny, because I always thought that if someone charged me money in order to do something, that was pretty much the definition of a service.

They are there to administer an immigration programme and have little or no leeway in applying the rules.
It would be nice to know if they actually followed the rules, but there are dozens of people over on the immigration forum that tell of the incompetence of the CHC staff who don't actually apply the rules properly.

Please do not slag off the CIC staff in London.
I can't think of a section of the Canadian Government that is more fairly slagged off than the CIC staff in London.

Hi i was there because they sent me a letter asking for rolf, but it had already been sent before we had taken our medicals. To be honest the only reason i went there was because the letter they had sent me mentioned if we didnt pay up witin 45 day they would dump our file. Not sure if you will have any luck if you go down there asking whats going on, but hey you might be lucky.

Fair enough, actually my accusation of incompetent idiots was directed at my buyer's solicitor; we would have be two weeks further down the road had it not been for them waiting for the already issued mortgage offer!

And it's not that I haven't been chasing, I've spoken to my solicitor twice, the estate agents 3 times and the buyers twice in the last two weeks and they all just kept getting fobbed off! Finally, yesterday we got to the bottom of things.

As for the CHC, my main critisisms are:
1. The vagueness of the timescale
2. The inability to speak to anyone and lack of response to my fax a week ago
3. The lack of information about the work permit application process

The "about" 2-3 week processing time is a minor irritation.

Do you have any idea why they haven't picked up a phone and spent 30 seconds telling me when I will be able to book the flights and removals? I don't think it is much to ask.

I sympathis if they are underpaid, over-worked and hassled but making one phone call doesn't seem too much to ask does it?

I knew many of them and they are far from being incompetent idiots. They are, however, seriously over-stretched and delays are created by:

- sheer numbers of applicants, most of which are not UK nationals

- having to deal with constant barrages of hassle from immigration consultants and applicants that want to know why they haven't received an acknowledgement for the letter they sent last week

- dealing with people that can't fill in a form properly

- waiting for the spooks in Canada to handle the security checks (the CIC people have no control over this)

Please do not slag off the CIC staff in London.

Yep,job offer definate. They submitted LMO approx 11 weeks ago so we should hear something very very soon(praying, hoping, begging lol). You know how it is,even then the wait won't be over,it'll be applying for the temp work permit from London and a bit more waiting........
I was not blessed with patience when it was handed out.
You guys heard anything yet?
Well hope you hear something very soon.

We have heard nothing from CHC, nor from Vancouver. Based on the past 6 months I reckon we'll hear end of this month or very early November. I'm not bothered about waiting now, we've missed the boat for getting out there this year and seem to have waited so long already. It would just be nice to hear the decision now, so we can make our decisoins either way.

Are you hoping to be gone by Christmas or making this one your last ?
