I just mentioned in another thread that many of the prices given on the website are high.

I definitely think the quote is wrong for utilities for Hamilton - though don't forget that we pay over the top for some as we are helping pay off the 'debt'.
I own a 3 bedroom bungalow. My last utility bills (including HST) were:
Electricity (2 months) - $116.38
Water ( 2 months) - $35.12
Gas (1 month) - $34.23
HD Cable, HS internet & home phone including movie network (1 month) $164.92
Total $58+$17.60+$34.23+$164.92 = $274.75
I could reduce the cable by $50 a month by reducing the number of channels/movie network. We have ultra high speed internet, so a lower speed would cost less. You could budget $100 for this.
Electricity bills go up in the summer (air conditioning costs) and down in the winter. Gas bills go up in the winter - heating costs - and down in the summer.
If you live in rented accommodation (apartments etc.,) then your heat and water are included in the cost normally - you just pay electricity and cable/internet costs. Some, but not all, include cable as well.
When I lived in a rented 2 bedroom apartment my monthly electricity bill was around $65.00.
Hope that helps a little.
Edited to say, based on the comparison, "water, heating, electricity" my monthly bill would be $110
Metro's own brand "selection' extra old white cheddar is identical to the English chedder I used to buy - it's excellent! Starky's stores have over 300 different cheeses, including many from the UK and Europe. It's not all bad - or expensive

thanks for the detail
we may settle down in
hamilton,
kitchener/waterloo/cambridge, or
guelph
hamilton seems to be the best choice right now but the move can not take place until next summer so we have loads of time to plan
