Default Query about healthcare

I am in toronto with a PR. The PR came from spouse sponsorship.

I have been in Toronto for about 3 months and a few weeks ago i received my health card.

Yesterday I sprained my left wrist. Can i use my healthcare and get free treatment or will i have to pay silly money?

If it is sprained what kind of treatment do you want?

Doctors visits and the like are covered by OHIP
If you can't find doctor taking new patients then walk in clinics are acceptable alternative

Prescriptions are not covered , you pay cost of drugs plus dispensing fee
Worth shopping around as fees vary

Many people have additional coverage through work that covers some drug costs

I suspect this may be in the wiki somewhere

Sprained? Wrap it up and wait for it sort itself out? Not sure what else a Doctor or hospital will do.

If you think it's fractured or broken then of course head to the hospital. Won't get charged silly money I don't think.

Visiting your family doctor and hospital is free when you have a health card. Get your ankle looked at to check there is no other damage if you think it's necessary.

Whoops wrong body part lol. Physio is free at hospitals in NS for those without cover so maybe it's the same in Ontario - but there could be a wait for an appointment if you go down that route. Anyone can pick up a support from the pharmacy for $20-30

I can tell you what it costs here for physio on my back/shoulder (1 hour mixed treatments - tens, ultrasound, acupuncture, heat pack, exercises) = $55 full cost. I pay around $11 with insurance.

There is publicly funded physio for seniors and other eligible people in Ontario.

Well done for googling. I thought it too complicated to go into the details here but as far ss the OP is concerned there would be no funding for wrist injury physiotherapy.
