Default Quantity Surveyors

Pretty vague question for anyone in the construction industry here…

Has anyone here got experience of finding work as a Quantity Surveyor in B.C? I understand that the profession doesn’t exist in exactly the same way as the UK so what comparable professions / positions do people find themselves taking up?

As far as I can tell there aren’t too many large construction companies out there (the company I work for in the UK have a portfolio of £300 million + projects underway currently) so I am resigned to the fact that I’ll not only need to adapt but also look at smaller, more local contractors.

Thanks

Stuart.

Hi Stuart

The profession does exist in canada and there are various associations in each province. You will find that Quantity surveying practices tend to exist but not contractors quantity surveyors. I have been advised to apply as an estimator as a route into contracting. Check out the Canadian institute of quantity surveyors CIQS.org.
