Is today a public holiday in BC?

The Holidays Act provides that July 2nd is Canada Day when July 1st is a Sunday. However, since in this case July 1st fell on a Saturday, there is no official compensation. The reality, though, is that many organisations have given their employees a holiday on Monday, July 3rd.
In Calgary some organisations gave their employees a holiday on Friday, June 30th. Their rationale was that their employees would have Stampede Parade Morning, July 8th, off work (and in some cases the whole of July 8th off work). The organisations in question decided it would be better to have two 4-day weeks than one 3-day week. That's not relevant to BC, I know, but someone else who is interested in Calgary may read it.
