Do we get these birds in wonderful Nova Scotia?

I'm afraid I can't help you there. We have them in Newfoundland, we have one which comes to stay in the winter down beside the garage. He's pretty cool except for his bad habit of crossing the drive when you are in a hurry to get to work!

What colour is he? I have two birds in the garden here that I swear blind are Ptarmigans but my OH won't have it as his Atlantic Bird book only shows them being where you are!

He's a kind of pale beige/white colour with goldie flecks. Seemingly, he's been here for a few years in winter. The women who used to own the house says that he doesn't alway go white in the winter, i think if he doesn't change colour it's going to be a mild winter. He's a lot lighter this year than last year, but yet this winter we've had less snow! Maybe an expert can shed some light on it.

Yes the ones here are a beigey colour...I shall have to take some snaps and you can see if they look like your fella!

The Willow Ptarmigan is a bird of the tundra, breeding across northern Eurasia and North America. In Europe it is known as Willow Grouse. In the new world, it breeds from Alaska to Newfoundland, including the High Arctic islands. It was introduced into Nova Scotia from the Newfoundland population.
