Does anyone have any suggestions for most cost effective way to move belongings from one Province to another. Uhaul is not an option. So don't go there
Thanks in advance :0)

Yellowpages>Removal Companies?
OK. Glib response I know, but short of driving a truck yourself, what alternative do you have but to use a removal company? Then your question becomes "I'm in X and want to move to Y, any recommendations?"

We are just moving from Ottawa out into the country side and I found that the PODS were a lot dearer than hiring a truck. They might be similar to a removal company though. It makes sense if you want to have time to pack or have to move out and store your stuff temporarily in the POD. We"ll hire a van and do it ourselves but I realize with the distance that you'd have to get a one way rental and not sure if anybody does that. Hertz rents out trucks. We see a lot of Fred Guy removal trucks around here. On Kijiji there are a few offering long distance moving. Or "Relocate, Canada movers"
If I was to move Province I would definitely look into getting a POD for a month, take my time packing, get it moved and take my time unpacking. It looks like less stress.
Whereabouts in ON are you heading to? Give it a few weeks, weather is rubbish in the moment
and we're under winter storm watch
Good luck!

When I moved (across the City, lol) I had a pod. It made life easier as it was delivered about a week before my move day which meant that I could load boxes as they were packed rather than having to have a room to store them in. The pod company picked the pod up and drove and dropped it at my new house, I then had a couple of weeks to unload it again, which was great when moving into a new house.
Upside: No rushing, pack and load, can shove things in at the last minute, no transport, no workers round the house, costs were kept to a minimum. You get to choose what date you want the pod dropped (allow yourself an extra week) and picked up again (you call them when ready).
Downside: Unless you are good at loading, you will need a bigger pod(s) than you thought. (I had a 16' pod and ended up with a Uhaul as well as I couldn't get everything in). It's a pain to pack and load it all yourself.
I used a local company but these people go Province to Province: http://www.pods.com/canada/Long-Dist...-province.aspx
It really depends on a) financial consideration; b) time management and c) physical capabilities.

Edit - I just found this company, might be worth getting a quote: http://www.gocanadamoving.ca/

I looked at PODS for a previous move. A problem is that you need a big flat hard surface at both ends.

Our U-Haul issue is that we cannot all fit in the cab and only my OH drives - so it doesn't work.
I guess it's probably going to be a removal company really - though the issue we have with the one we had out to quote was that we had to be in ON to check everything off the truck into self storage and we are likely not going to be in ON when it arrives - we were hoping to holiday in the States en-route. The removal company does have storage where we are moving to but warned me it was very small and if it is full when our stuff arrives "they will just stick your stuff in a barn" lol

I saw some interesting comparisons of costs of PODS (when you add it all up) vs. traditional moving companies and they weren't all that different when you factor in time, stress and potential damages. Any quote from both should be free and non obligatory, so why not get quotes from both and see what suits you best?

I would just suck it up and pay the removals peeps and find one that can store your stuff when it arrives. When we got our stuff from the UK it was delivered to us by Williams. They seemed ok.

The pod people will store your stuff for as long as you like - at a price.
