Can someone list some decent websites for Edmonton, we will need to rent first then look for something to buy.

Also where are the areas to avoid?

www.rentfaster.ca is a good site for property rentals here in Edmonton.

You can use www.mls.ca for getting an idea of property costs etc in different parts of the city.

Thanks its a good start for us.

I'm presented with this choice for area:

NW, NE, SW, SE, West or Central as general areas

Beaumont, Bon Accord, Calmar, Devon, Fort Saskatchewan, Gibbons, Leduc, Millwoods, Sherwood Pk, Spruce Grove, St Albert and Stony Plain as named areas.

Which of these would be best to avoid? As a starter for 10, I know that Sherwood park is a good area, but what are the rest like, we would probably try to be close to the centre or to the rail system as my wife cannot drive.

Thanks in advance..

Honestly, a lot is going to depend on where you will be working, and how much you have to spend on a house.

I live in the South West, we rented in the West to start out, then moved further to the SW, and then bought a house even further South, we love it!

Do you have children? Again, that is going to affect your decision in terms of schooling etc.

I can pm you the details of a good real estate brokerage if that would help. When we moved here we didn't actually buy with them, but they really helped us get a handle on which part of town would likely work best for our needs.

I enjoyed working with them so much that I plan to join their company next year!

^Shhhh, don't tell the Sherwood Park crowd that. They assume the waft from Refinery Row and the chemical plants at Fort Sask is the sweet smell of success.
