take the next 2 months to find a awesome place! Kits is my old stomping grounds - best place in the city handsdown!

Welcome to vancouver.
If its any consolation you're probably paying about market rates - $2k for a short term furnished rental won't get you much..

What rental agency did you book though?

ive just rented a one bedroom+den (625sqft) in yaletown (homer&davey) fully furnished with cable tv, internet, parking and insuite laundry and im paying $2250/month.... exxy but sure as hell convenient being month to month until we find a more suitable place.... as for the OP being hosed for paying similar - not too sure thats the case?

against all instints, i did it all sight unseen and i was getting a bit iffy about the mob i used because they refused to call me back and would only send emails... as it has turned it, we love the place and van more so!

only dilemma now is finding a job anyone know of anything going in van? (can commute!)

i've lived here for years and have never paid more than 1150 a month for a unfurnished one bed in Vancouver- mind you I'm talking older, no in suite landry, not in Yaletown, etc. the last place I had was around 700 sq feet. So I do consider 2250 for 625 sq feet being hosed - although for a short term set up there's nowt wrong with it.

Areas like coal harbour or yaletown will always demand top dollar and I reckon furnished will had a good 500 -700 a month. Average rental in vancouver is about 2 bucks per square feet.

nice - mine is the one immediately to the right of the tallest building (i think). I look the other way and see a bit of stanley park, lions gate, west van and the lions and grouse.

Cool, we've got a view of stanley park and the lions gate too. My only complaint about it is that it's north facing and so the sun isn't on our balcony that much. Still, can't have everything.

our balcony is south facing huge (400 sq feet) and gets sun all day, although I imagine the apartment will be too hot in the summer.

Here's the balcony

Without sounding cheeky, roughly how much are you paying for your place dboy? I suspect it is beyond my budget, but it looks like you have a great place there! If we get our visa through I certainly want to look at getting a place on the north shore somewhere.

Yeah we really really like your apartment too dboy! That's the dream apartment! Don't suppose you'd fancy swapping it for the dark cave we're in! No?? You sure you didn't get these pictures out of a dream home catalogue!! ;-)

We checked out North Van two days ago, really nice, like it alot so we'll be looking over there too. Easy to get downtown on the seabus. Beautiful down there today on the waterfront.

Bastion Rentals has a couple of apartments available every month, unfurnished,

a lot of them around Kitsilano,
anywhere from 1 bedroom to 3 bedroom, and anywhere from $1100 to $2400 or so /month.

look them up on google

--
I think the OP is probably paying market rate.

i checked Bastion - seem reasonable and are around 2 dollars a square foot - 50 for parking a month. I wouldn't bother with the parking - for 35 a year you can get a residential permit that allows parking at permit areas - i never had a problem finding parking.
