Default pretoria: what the hell is happening ?

My sister ( resident in India) filed for skilled independent imm. from Pretoria in Dec 2001.

File no. was received in Feb 2002.Since then, NOTHING.

1) Experts, please tell me. From your most recent observations, how long does the entire process take from Pretoria?

2) We were told not to send any addtl documents becoz if we do, then the officers at pretoria remove the file to place them in, and then return the file right at the end of the queue. Is this true?

All replies are welcome. Thanks!

Pretoria is a very slow visa post for many years now. If your sister resides in India
then why she applied through Pretoria?! By submitting her application to visa post
which doesn't normally serve immigration applications from her country she forfeited
any chance for interview waiver. Average processing time for applications from within
area serviced by Pretoria (Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia,
South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe) with interview required is anywhere
between 20 and 36+ months. Out of jurisdiction applications are processed
substantially longer.

Submitting additional documents to support the case will not slow down the process,
but status requests will.

There is no "hell" happening. Your sister submits her application in December, gets a file number in Feb, what you were expecting the visa in July????

She shouldnt have filed it from Pretoria anyways as she is a resident of India, as now since she is out of jurisdiction she will be interviewed. An interview adds atleast 8-12 months to the processing of in jurisdiction cases. Atleast from New Delhi she had a chance of a interview waiver. Out of jurisdiction applications are placed LAST in the priority of processing.

You should tell your sister to expect a 3-4 year wait, and thats being optimistic.

Good day Andrew,

Is my case an example of a out of jurisdiction scenario?

I was born in Hongkong under the British rule in 1973, and immigrated to the Philippines with my parents in 1975. In addition, I got my Philippine permanent residence in the year 1996. And in 2001 Dec, submitted my PR Application to Canadian Embassy Manila, Philippines. And according to CIC they received my application on the 14th of Dec. 2001 and Jan. 21,2002 received AOR from the Embassy.

Furthermore, My fiancee also filed her application on the same date and received AOR 17th Jan.2002 and has initial assessment on 13th of May 2002 indicating an Interview is required.
My question is that, is there a chance we could both receive a Interview Waived and how long should I wait for the initial assessment?

Any response is appreciated.

Neo

Since you are resident of the Philippines your application is not out of jurisdiction
and should go to Manila. As has been said many times in the newsgroup, you can't
compare timelines to other applications.

Since your fiancée already has been told that she will require an interview, there is
no chance that you both will get a waiver. There is still hope in your case as you
have not been specifically told you need an interview.
