Pregnancy, birth and work permits
Hi all,
I got a three year intra-company transfer visa in December. My husband jumped on the back of it with open work permit. I have just found out I am pregnant. I will go on maternity leave in October and plan to take the full year of leave. I have 2 questions: 1) Is taking a year of maternity leave acceptable under the conditions of my work permit? 2) What happens if I don't want to return to work after the year of maternity leave? Does having a child in Canada permit me and my husband to stay in the country? I would appreciate your thoughts/experience. Thank you in advance Anna |

No. You can remain to the end of your work permit, the child is a citizen s/he can come and go as s/he pleases, you still have to qualify for Immigration. |

Thank you Anna |

Thank you Anna You would be applying for permanent resident status no it wouldn't Can't recall offhand but a look on the CIC website should tell you. You need to find out which route you are going to apply via, and whether you qualify. |
