Yesterday evening I received a package from the CHC in London with my passport and PR visa enclosed. Just need a trip to the border now to get it rubber stamped.

PR visa issued July '08

Now I'm no longer tied to a WP and our business, so Canada's my oyster, or something.

i am still waiting on my worker permit supposed to take 6 weeks... now week 12, and im due to fly off to start work on saturday :S hope mine comes in the nick of time, probably take 1193 days for me to get just a worker one lol! anyways, nice one mate!

I've a new job to start at the university in Kamloops (they've been patient enough to wait for me to get PR since offering me the job back in April), so that'll be my serving of oyster soon.

My family and I are just starting research to moving to canada and are finding the imagration process confusing. Have you applied for PR and waited for the process to complete or have you had a temporary work permit and been out there.

Some poeple in this forum seem to have got a temp work permit and then obtained the PR within 1 year.

Is it possible in simple terms to outline the imagration process.

R I C H's case is very unusual. He and his wife submitted a PR application. Then they got tired of waiting, came to Canada on a holiday, bought a property with a view to starting a business and, on that basis, applied for temporary work permits, which were granted. They then developed their business, Fieldstone Equestrian Centre, in Kamloops, BC. As I understand it, Mr. and Mrs. R I C H then just let their PR application rumble along in its own good time. Fortunately their PR application now has been approved. But there are not many members of this forum who have done what R I C H has done.

The quickest way to understand the immigration process, I believe, is to read the Wiki article called Quick Guide to Canadian Immigration.

Since you've also mentioned the people who have upgraded from temporary work permits to PR status within a year, you'd probably be interested in the Wiki called Fast Track PR Application.

I moved to BC as a tourist in August '05 (a few months after applying for PR).

I purchased some property and started a business, which I wasn't allowed to earn a living from for 4mths until my WP was issued in Nov '05. I applied for the WP while in Canada, and had to travel to the US border to flag-pole in order to get the documentation issued.

Because I was self-employed I had no employer to sponsor me, which is the usual way to expedite PR, so I've had to be patient and wait 3yrs for the PR process to take its course.
