PR Claiming E.I (PR obtained through spousal sponsorship)
I have PR through spousal sponsorship and got it a year ago, hypothetically speaking if I were to become laid off, could I claim E.I? I know you cannot claim any government assistance for three years after you obtain PR through spousal sponsorship but does this include E.I? Was just having a discussion with someone at work and it would be nice to know for peace of mind!

As long as you're paying for it (Making contributions through salary), you can even claim it on a TWP.

The not being able to access Government assistance bit refers to social assitance. EI, assuming you have paid in sufficient contributions, is available to you.

To the best of my knowledge and experience with being on social assistance (medial issues didn't qualify for EI) there is no ban on sponsored persons from receiving assistance, but the sponsor may and likely will be billed for any assistance paid out.
