Default PR Card renewal

Hi All
I am married to a Canadian. We were thinking of moving to Canada before and got my PR in 2007 which is valid until 2012. Due to work circumstances we didn't move to Canada and will continue to live in Tokyo for the next few years.
In order to maintain my PR I have to live in Canada for 2 out of 5 years but since I am married to a Canadian I think the years we've been together counts towards that.
While we don't know if we move back before my PR expires, I am wondering if it's easy to renew my PR (just before expiry) without having to go through expensive new application process.

Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

1. You have to renew the Card, not the PR. You have to be resident in Canada to renew and it will cost you $50.00

Thanks. I visit my in-laws every year so going to Canada to renew is not an issue as long as I can renew it and they don't cancel my PR because I haven't lived there.

As long as you can prove you were residing abroad with CC spouse, you will not have a problem. I hope you visit your in-laws for a while because the processing time is 47 days and you have to pick it up at a CIC in person.

Our visits are usually no longer than 2 weeks. It's not possible to apply by mail and pick it up in person later?
