Explain please the comment hack the climate.
Not that I should really have to explain the vagiaries of Calgaries climate to a long term resident, but wasnt it just July and August that were snow free this year, or did June sneak in too;) |

Maybe January and 20c in the morning and -20c after lunch, 2 feet of snow in May, possibility of frost pretty much every month.

Colder in the winter than much of the other inhabited bits of Canada. The chinook in particular are largely unique to that bit of Canada, some people like the brief warm spells, others are driven nuts by them.

Overall I would guess that Calgary's climate is not that different than where you live only with much less snow and no were near as humid in the summer.
Yes we can get extremes but they happen not as much as you and others who don't live here would have the world believe. Anyway, none of this has anything to do with the OPs job dilemma. I would think a cook should be able to find something in the city, shouldnt they. Not sure how bad the economic slowdown is biting in cowtown? |
Re: possible job in calgary
There are lots of restaurants and hotels in Calgary, your wife should be able to find work relative to her field.
The winter here in Calgary is milder than some parts for sure, especially with the Chinook weather, not so good for headache sufferers though. Places in the Okanagan valley have great winter weather but it all depends on what you are after and what your preference is. |

You are right about the Humidity, but the deep winter cold there is is a lot colder there and lasts a lot longer. Also in Ontario snow is pretty confined to November to April here. Plus there is nothing like the Chinooks anywhere else but the Souther part of Alberta is there?
Here take a look at the long term averages for both Trenton and Calgary and tell me that the to locations are not similar except for the already mentioned precip and humidity. Apologies to the OP but it just gets tiresome reading all the crap about Calgary weather from people who really don't have a clue. Not a specific attack on you Iain you just happen to be the most recent. |

Yep, lets use the extremes as an example of everyday life.
That's always a good idea. |

The Calgary climate has its good and bad points. No sun and continuous rain for 6 months isn't a factor here though.

Here take a look at the long term averages for both Here the average is the result a slight changes in the temp from day to day, maybe 3 or 4 degrees difference in the daytime high or daytime low from one day to the next, if that. In Calgary there can be a 20 degree swing or more... Which is largely unique to that location and entirely my point. Perhaps its more valid to check out the total days a year where the temp touches -30 or more... I suspect Calgary is way ahead on that front, but dont have the urge to prove it... |

I think we are at cross purposes, its the swings in the winter weather that are a Calgary thing, plus the longer winter season. you never did reply on which were the snow free months;)
