Poll for section dedicated to each Province
#31
I'm with Oakvillian and Grah. The more a forum is fragmented the more parts of it die through lack of fresh posts. Status quo for me and have voted as such.

I voted no for the same reason and am a bit surprised at all the yes votes. If we start having sections for each province then I guess the USA part of the forum will have a section for each state. Maybe the moving back to the UK forum a section for each county? I can understand why people might think it's a good idea but it's not. Everything seems to be ticking over quite nicely already.

I do agree that it would be good to be able to easily search by province, but that could be achieved by tagging each thread. I wouldn't like to have all our fabulous posts diluted. would i ever go into the Ontario or Manitoba forum??? Perhaps not, but I would probably be missing out if I didn't

Sorry to call all my previous "no" voters thick....but how many times do I have to explain my idea
Basically it would be like an online address book.....you do not go there to ask questions, it is not another forum, but simply to see if any other person lives where you are going to live.
People already living in Canada would NOT look into this new place, but of course could if they wanted to see if there were any newbies coming to their town, rather new folk on here could look here to see if anyone was living or going to where they were. I must have said this five times now
Also it would not be separate to the four forums, but a Read-me green highlighted line at the top of the Canada thread.
Goodness....I dont know what is wrong with you lot that you are trying to turn this into something it isn't:curse:

That's still not the same thing......I want to meet and greet as many people as possible...not just people going to Saskatchewan.
And from what I have seen over the past few months not too many people other than a few ever seem to actually "meet and greet" people until they post in the other three forums.

It doesn't really make sense.
After the slating I got from Grah, likening me to G Bush etc, I had every right to be annoyed, don't you think? This was just an idea to make the forum an easier place for newcomers - I wasn't suggesting going to war or anything.
You were perfectly entitled to vote no

Stepnek, I'm not touchy at all - I just don't understand how the people who overwhelmingly have voted yes, were able to understand the idea, but yet those who voted no, weren't.

The way I see it you either agree or disagree.
Want to add that this will be basically an on line address book. This isn't a section to ask and answer questions. It will be a dedicated Read me line which is permanent at the top of the Canada lifestyle section.
When you click on theis thread all the Provinces will be listed...you choose whichever Province is relevant to you and click on it. Once opened it will give a list of all the people going there and if you want to talk to any of them just click on their name.
This will help newbies or oldies asking, "Does anyone live......or going to......etc"

My understanding of the principle is this (Al, please amend as you see fit)...
Each newbie would simply click on the (new proposed) WHERE IN CANADA link at the top of the main Canada forum site. This would hotlink them to a wiki with a front-page menu showing a map and all the provinces. Clicking on a province name would open the page and allow them to post their user name there and at a glance see all the other usernames of people linked to that province (so e.g. clicking on Alberta would bring up a list that would include newshoney- Calgary; burton bunch- lethbridge... and so on and so forth).
Any province-related queries would still be posted in the appropriate Canada general forum or Immigration or Maple Leaf fora. No dilution at all, in fact the opposite. Just a handy way of figuring out who's who and getting a ready-made list of user names to PM for any meet ups.
Do you get the impression that the girls get it, but the boys don't?
