You teach some stats to university students when you're a postgrad student and all of a sudden you become a stats prof ... if it helps any, I didn't complete my project ... I gave up on the PhD and moved into IT for the money :D

lol, interesting.. I must say I loved the Stats course I took at univ.

I never liked IT.. well, as a major anyway.. although IT is slightly different from comp sci. :scared: So you do programming and stuff?

OK, do I get the "champion of off-topic posts" title? :D

Not a chance. Willmore is the master of taking things off topic. You have not demonstrated greater ability than she has in this subject.

Hi, Mrs G. :) Well, since willmore will be taking the smartass title, I thought the off-topic title would be a consolation for me. :D But it seems to me willmore is keen on taking all the titles! :scared:

You liked the stats' courses that you took at university? were they required courses? or did you take them for enjoyment?......what a group I hang out with here (hahaha).....I had to take several lower-level stats courses during my undergraduate years and I hated every minute of it.....the poor biologists required to take these courses were laughed at by the stats' genius' in the class - but at least they helped us close to exams.

No I think I still have that title - "off-topic posts" (I'm really trying to keep on topic)....but I'm willing to share the title.....cause you're a real close second!!!!!! Think that will be the next poll!!!!! :D

Here's a great idea - we'll share both titles.....since the competition is SO close........... :D

I did stats because it was part of the subject I worked on ... then again, I also took Chemistry and really enjoyed the physical chemistry - the Gas Laws, etc.

Stats is fun - you can really use it to bend the truth.

LOL.. no, it wasn't required. I have a problem with required courses - I don't like them at all. I think that's because they're required of me. I hated the comp sci courses I took because I had to take them. I love programming in my spare time, but I never handed in any of my comp sci assignments.. Now math & physics, I just love those. The only two courses I took (but weren't required) and which I hated were microeconomics & macroeconomics. I ended up failing one, and barely passing the other.

Wow.. hehe.. I still have my COBOL book!! I was trying to learn it a couple of years back, but I gave up on it because I found better things to do with my time. lol... I had to take Java, which I despised. But I love C++.

The only department I haven't taken a course in at univ is Chem, because I didn't need more credits by the time its turn came haha.. and well, same goes for biol too, actually.. minus the "human anatomy" course I took where we had to explore the muscles of dissected cats every week, and look at a sheep's heart. Well, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who puked.. :scared:

Well, that would mean that you'd have to share the smartass title with myself, iaink, and Glas. At least technically. :D

Well, I was always taught to "share"......(unless of course it's something I really want..... then it's every person for themselves :D

As everyone (including Rhodes, but excluding other) gets more the 5% of the vote, the poll indicated that everyone shows significant tendencies towards smartarsedness ... want me to run a stats test to prove it??

Math, physics, chemistry and of course biology were all required courses through my 4 undergraduate years at university. Really had difficulty with the courses - the math/science genius' used us biologists as the "butt of their jokes".....but in the end......they were actually good enough to help us. It was a tough four years.....but once in grad school I got to teach 1st year biology classes and really loved it, my one consolation for 4 yers of hard work.

My electives were courses that didn't need alot of time and effort - history, geography, environmental studies...
:D

lol.. history doesn't need a lot of time? On the contrary.. Actually, I took the science courses because I hate studying. I don't study. I hate arts courses because you have to write essays/papers and show up for tutorials (class participation bs). :(

That's exactly what I mean. It comes down to the way we think - either left or right brain - you're obviously a left brain and I'm definitely a right brain.

Left brain - is very logical, sensible and find the answer to questions in a logical, step by step manner. That's probably why the math/sciences' were so easy for you.

I'm a right brain thinker.....I will eventually get to the answer - but alot of times...don't know how I got it.....(not through logic and step by step manner). that's why I had so much trouble with math/sciences'. History, geography, etc weren't alot of work for me....it's easy to bs your way through essays, etc, and you didn't necessarily need to go to every class to learn the material.

Interesting how we learn in different ways isn't it..... :D
