Default PNP...what do you think?

Hello All & Happy New Year!

We would just like to ask if anyone has or is in the process of applying thru the PNP route?
We have read a fair amount on here and are reading everything i can find!

We are opened minded but have been looking at Alberta and NS as my OH is an Electronic Engineer-with plumming, carpentry, plastering & mechanic experience... he washes up & makes tea too!!

He currently is self employed, so will he need to show evidence of trading if we apply thru the PNP system...he has been self employed for some 15 yrs now.
If we have read it correctly, he would'nt be able to set himself up as self employed in Canada...as his is not a farming related job he currently has??

Also, we hav'ent yet found a site to see if his qualification are recognised...
Will he have to take some sort of exam to 'prove' he's got the right 'stuff'...
we have found some info about RED SEAL...is this conpulsery?
Or just advisery?

We know all this is probably on here somewhere....
But we would like to here from anyone with resent experience of the system!

Thanks
