Hi all
We have been planning to move to Ontario in canada. I am a GP and my husband Paediatrician.
We have applied for documents verification which has been done. We also became an active 'out of country member of CFPC'.
Can you guys help with next step. I am told that we need to apply with CV to CFPC but some say that we need a job first.
I am confused as to what to do next. We prefer south of ontario and planning to start looking for jobs.
Can anyone please explain process to follow. If finding a job is the next step, I am confused as to where to start.
Thanks for your help

I'm fairly sure you have to do both concurrently. Registration with CFP depended on my husband having a suoervisor which you need to have a job for (if indeed you need supervision awaiting exams). If memory serves correctly, registration takes a while and they understand you will have a job/suoervisor by the end of the process.

Hi, I am a GP and will be moving to Toronto next 4-6 weeks (awaiting TWP). You need to get an 'eligibility letter' from CPSO stating that you are eligible to work in Canada through the exemption route (assuming you have MRCGP).
I got a job through Global Medics, they are great, but I feel I may have been able to get better terms on my own (hindsight). You could look at jobs on the health force Ontario website, google and register, and try applying.
Once you have a job offer you can apply to CPSO (ontario physicians and surgeon college) for a restricted license , meaning you will need to work under supervision till you complete the exams.. Be ready for lots of form filling etc. At the same time your employer will need to apply for LMO(Labour market opinion, takes about 6-8 weeks).
Once you have both you can apply for the TWP(temporary work permit, 3 months processing time at present). However I understand that you could take all your paperwork and get the TWP at the port of entry. Unfortunately I applied 4 weeks ago so dont see the point of going without it.
All in all has taken me about 18 months, including the documents verification process.
Sorry I have no idea about Paediatricians but I assume it will be a similar process.

Thank you so much Tirytory and Fari. That was very helpful.
Its nice to know Fari that you would be going to Toronto soon from here. Do you mind if I message personally if any doubts. I dont know how to do this but will find out if ok. Its just easier to chat with someone who has been through the process fairly recently.

Yes, I will be happy to answer any questions. I understand it is a very daunting process, I just hope it will be well worth it.
Hi Tirytory where are you based and did you apply for twp or get it at the port of entry?

We are two hours north of Toronto. Like yourself my husband applied for a twp from the UK..... It seemed the safest option and he hadn't had a medical pre-done.

I think you'll both find it's worth it if you're looking for less stress/more pay

Hi
Thank you both for help.
It has been nearly an year since we started dealing with this. I would think it will take atleast another year for whole process to complete if everything goes well.
There are 'exams' which would be another big thing after entering there. Thought of working in new place, exams, supervisor reports, etc seems daunting.
I too hope its really worth it!!

Hi Akshabni
I am GP too (only 3 yrs so newbie) and currently going through the process for Toronto ontario too...it has taken me about 1-2 years trying to understand...
You have done step 1 - source verification.
also done step 2 - registering with CFPC. they will give you letter of eligibility without examination if already has MRCGP which you will need when apply for step 3.
Step 3 is to get register with CPSO - college of physician and surgeon of ontario.
you can email the enquire section for application and they will email you. i can send you the applications if you PM me too.
As part of registration with CPSO to get restricted license you need a few things:
a job with supervision- you can find this via global medics or via health force ontario. this may take time so don't sent your application until you find a job with supervision.
and few other stuff - you can see the checklist of what is required once you got the email from CPSO.
Plz remember - most of the documents you sent to CPSO has 6 months expiry date which means you may have to resubmit such as GMC good standing/references if you have not completed ur application. Your application goes to registration committee to assess if they grant you license to practice. I have all all 3 exams as thought it is safest and ensuring i never return to uk but still my application will be reviewed by registration committee
so it is just the way the canadian seems to work! restricted license for ontario is limited to max 3 years and you have to do all the examins MCCQE1 and QE2 but can get MCCEE exemption. however if you choose to go to say Alberto then MCCEE is enough and if stay in the province for 5 years i let to believe you automatically will get ur full independent license.
Plz note these exams are not difficult and with a bit of study you can easily pass for practising GP...
good luck.....
Sorry! i don't know about paediatrician much....the HFO - health force ontario advisor are helpful!
