Hi, I am new to the forum but have been looking into emigrating to Canada for quite a while now. We have family friends in Oakville and love the place having spent quite a bit of time there.
I had an interview with a firm of construction consultants when we were out last month and am hopeful of an offer soon. My wife is a journalist and should hopefully pick up some freelance work.
Our kids are 13 (April 1995) and 16 (Dec 1991) - could anyone tell me what level they would go into the Ontario education system at? We are looking at Glen Abbey area - is the new school off Pilgrims Way quite good?
I think the best bet for me would be to get a working visa then apply for PR - has anyone else similar experience?
On a side note my kids are ice hockey players and would welcome any advice on suitable clubs in the area??
Thanks

I know all the Schools around that area have good results so i'm sure Pilgrims Way is no exception.
As for ice hockey there are a number of clubs near, the Glen Abbey Rec has 2 rinks which concentrates mainly on hockey.
Hope this helps.

Hi PapaG
Welcome, we are living in Glen Abbey and arrived last summer.
My daughter is 13 (1995) and is in grade 7 of elementery school Abbbey Lane Public School was abit of a shock going back to 'primary' after being in secondary in the UK but has settled in well and has loads of friends.
My 2 boys are in Abbey Park High School (Pilgrims Way) grade 9 & 10 and have made lots of friends and settled down quickly, a 1991 birthday would put you in grade 11.
Ice Hockey can be played at any level in Oakville there are loads of clubs, everyone around here has a hockey net on their drive it was the first thing we bought from a garage sale when we arrived.

Hi
We love it here, found it abit "stepford" to start with but the natives are very friendly and we are settling in nicely to a slower pace of life that works so much better than what we had in the UK.
Hope your garage door isn't as dinted as mine!

We thought we were on our own, but it is fantastic to have contact with people who have been through the process. It is the "daft" questions that the formal websites don't address; these can be as important when considering the "leap".

We have 3 boys who are going to start at Heritage Glen School in September so we are hoping they will settle in.
