Yes! Plaid shirts, I knot mine at about belt buckle level for, ya know uber style ;) I am also getting to be quite a fan of rara/flippy skirts, broderie skirts and ankle length cowboy boots.
I would like one of those belts too, and I did seem some ornamental spurs/boot bracelet things with crystals which I loved but even the three year old laughed himself silly when I tried them on and he's Dean Brody's greatest fan :D . He still mentions "the silly boot things you put on mummy" :o |

Yes they do, I love it and I love living in Canada. Did have a bit of an embarrassing moment when the toddler started singing in a very loud voice the song "tequila makes her clothes fall off" from the top of the climbing frame in a busy Victoria park a few weeks ago :o. There were a few cats bum faces but most found it funny. He loves country music and always wants to dress the part bless him! :D

Re: Places to visit in the Maritimes?
If you decide to visit PEI you can travel up the 104 towards Amherst but take the Wentworth junction off (think junction 11) and follow signs for Pugwash and then drive Goosecap trail. Very pretty and along that road you will turn off for PEI. We can meet up if you do this in Pugwash for coffee

Misery tourism needs somewhere like the 9th ward, Mexicantown or abandoned Buffalo, somewhere that makes your hair stand on end; I haven't seen any such place in eastern Canada.
Haha, I love the word "misery tourism", never heard that one before. so I am officially a misery tourist , I walked down East Hastings Steet / Vancouver last week to take in the "sights" On the subject of scenic spots in Nova Scotia> Don't stop in Lunenburg when travelling along the coast. The most interesting part is past there. Drive out to Kingsburg , one of the most beautiful beaches to walk on at low tide is Hirtle Beach and there is a trail up on the cliffs with stunning views, called Gaff Point. Then take the LaHave ferry across, have some lunch at the LaHave bakery and drive along Hwy 331 South to Exit 17. It's beautiful, I live here :p |

Re: Places to visit in the Maritimes?
Oh definitely terrible, if that helps your daughter... ;)
Well, it wasn't a pleasant sight to see, that's for sure, but then on the other hand, they are all people, so not any more scary than anyone else. |

In this day and age, pro-choice is where its at. Most Canadians mind their own business, especially the ones I have met. They are non confrontational too for the most part.
Not always ........ there's been hate mail delivered in some communities here in BC, both racist and pro-life. Racist is largely, IMO, from people scared of the immigrants from non-English speaking countries. Pro-life ......... mainly red-neck men objecting to women having a say. But I don't think NS has the large number of Chinese or South Asian immigrants that we have here in BC. |

Re: Places to visit in the Maritimes?
Yeah I think wherever there is a big/vocal pro life movement there tends to be bigotry, racism, xenophobia, misogyny et al. They seem to frequently go hand in hand in my experience.
Our toddler son's two best friends are a Phillipina immigrant girl and a boy with quite severe disabilities, the mother's of both of them are stay at home mums as I am, so the six of us frequently go for picnics, beach days etc. Some of the comments from other parents can be pretty shocking. |
