Yes! Brier Island off Digby has the best whale watching trips. There are two tour guides there, Mariner Whale and Seabird Tours and Brier Island tours. The place is almost teeming with Humpbacks :-)

Ahh I see thanks. Just wondering as looks like NS will be our new province shortly and I seem to have quite the knack of picking not so charming places to live. I think I'll start another thread later as I don't want to end up in another white privilege, pro life stronghold.

I was a bit disappointed in Spryfield. I went there yonks ago when my daughter was about to start school in Halifax. We were interested to get an impression of the town, good bits and bad, and that was supposed to be bad. It didn't have any of the visual cues that put me on edge; no bars on the ground floor windows, no groups of men hanging around the corners with paper bags in their hands, no burned out vehicles, no sounds of shots. At that time that daughter played iced hockey in a worse neighbourhood.
Misery tourism needs somewhere like the 9th ward, Mexicantown or abandoned Buffalo, somewhere that makes your hair stand on end; I haven't seen any such place in eastern Canada. Having said that, I have seen plenty of people who looked like they have just rolled out of bed and put on their oldest, most faded flannel PJs and decided to go and get their weekly shop in Walmart. They invariably also have next to no teeth. It was a shocker the first time I saw that (it was in Truro and I didnt venture to that Walmart for 4 years after that). Bedford and Halifax Walmarts dont seem to attract these types so much |

I took that picture off Brier Island, can't remember which tour boat. On the same trip we did that other clichéd holiday thing, rented some horses and rode on a beach. Downhill Beach is still the best but that was fun, cheap and easily arranged.

No I mean abusive mail left on the doorstep, being treated like a social pariah, being called a murderer. Telling Phillipina ladies that their kids cant play at the public park as it isn't for their kind. That sort of stuff.

To be fair the first two weren't in Canada, they were when we lived in Scandinavia.

Hmmm, I'd just started being able to dress like I'm in a country music video without feeling like a caricature, might have to roll out the white capri pants again :D
