I use Yak. I've not had any serious problems with it and there's no contract.
Just need to dial 10-15-945 (or 10-10-925) before your number, and it shows up on your normal phone bill later.

Think the rates are 9cents/min for landline. There's probably cheaper out there but for convenience it works for me.

I recommend Vonage which for a fixed monthly fee they offer all local, long-distance and calls to Europe.
You do need a high-speed internet connection as well.

I just use a Vox card and top it up online. $30 lasts us about 2-3 months and i make a reasonable amount of phone calls.

you can call from Skype to landlines in the UK if you buy credit from Skype - costs about 0.04p p/m so really cheap!

This has probably been posted before I tried searching but didn't see an answer but I wanted to know whats the best and cheapest way to call land line to land line.
Now I know about skype etc.... but it's land line information I am looking for, I have seen some companies doing deals for $$$ per month and I've used calling cards, also I am wondering if east link do any deals with international calls?
What do people think? What do people use?
I'm looking for a way to call my parents and not having to wait for them to come online, even if it's a 10 min call to say hi. Also I want to speak to my grandparents and they don't use computers so I would love to call them and tell them what I'm doing. I haven't spoke to them in nearly a year.
thanks

We use an internet company called ITP Voip - we pay $25 a month and have unlimited free calls to 25 countries world wide including the UK, and free calls to Canada and the USA.
We then got a virtual number (an 020 London number) from the same company - and so friends and family from the UK can call us for free too or at a local call charge. This cost us $5 a month.
Its been working a treat... as everyone can call everyone for free!

I found this place to be the best - for $20 you get a PIN number e-mailed to you that gets you 1111 (yep, you read that right) minutes of calls to standard UK landlines

Or you can pay 1p a min on normal thing
and 10p a min for mobiles.

We use Goldline.
They're very good. We have the number programmed in the landline phone so we ring the 'goldline' number, and then dial the UK number. The charge for landline to landline is 2.5 cents a minute.
We have it set up that when our pre-paid account gets down to $1 it automatically tops up to $10 so we never run out of credit.
You don't need to change telephone service provider either.
Check out the website.

You could look at getting a UK number, then have her call you. Sipgate (www.sipgate.co.uk) will do you a free VOIP number with an 01xxx or 02x area code. You can receive calls using VOIP at no charge, or forward it to a regular Canadian number for 1p a minute.

We have used webcalldirect for ages without any problems. You dial a no. and then the number you want to call and get put straight through. My mum in the UK uses dialwise to call me for 1/2p a minute.

Calls from Canada to UK fixed lines are 2cpm. Also works for Canada long distance. Credit doesn't expire and there's no "low cost 50 cents connection fee" like some other heavily advertised services on TV

Also when you call your UK contact, they will see a call from a UK number which they can call you back on and then you both talk for only local calling costs.
