Yes, quite a lot of 'garage' and 'car' crime (people leaving cars unlocked on the drive and getting them rifled) - even in our pleasant leafy suburb of London.
I have photographed 'down at heel' cars slowly driving around taking photos and spoken to the police about them (they created a report and asked for the photos). Fortunately our study faces onto the main road. I think our prominent ADT sign and CCTV cameras are something of a deterrent.

I'm more concerned when we are away from the property (which is quite often)

I lived in Stratford E15 for many years, a long time ago - Pre madness days - and on a good day in full sunlight you could be mugged, and I was battered by a complete stranger and left unconscious in the road, and I still have no idea why. So I’m doing much better now!

I know of three separate friends that have had vehicles stolen. One friend who has had Amazon parcels stolen and one friend who is a shop owner has been shoplifted on multiple occasions. There have been murders/shooting, arson and theft. Just yesterday a police officer was assaulted and needed an ambulance.
It used to be like living in a village but now it's like living in a city (English versions). The economy is so low, the big earners are no longer earning big, they are not flashing their cash and not donating so there is less to go around all over, there are multiple homeless camps. I cannot see it getting any better for some time.

Incidentally, since east London has been mentioned. My daughter emigrated from Toronto to Tower Hamlets, she said it was much more exciting.

Locks never really worked in Vancouver, they just use grinders to cut them off, metal gates on condo garages no problem, they just use grinders to a hole big enough to climb through. Cars locked, eh they just break the window. Drug addiction fuels much of it.

One thing that's always seemed consistent is a spate of convenience store/gas bar robberies...someone gets arrested and then nothing until the next spate and subsequent arrest some months later. Or cars broken into on a particular street in one night but not repeated anywhere, making it look like a drunken night out rather than anything organised.

I have noticed - from the local newspaper - there's an increase in places where used needles are found and an increase in the needles themselves.
One thing that's always seemed consistent is a spate of convenience store/gas bar robberies...someone gets arrested and then nothing until the next spate and subsequent arrest some months later. Or cars broken into on a particular street in one night but not repeated anywhere, making it look like a drunken night out rather than anything organised.

Then some people do things like this with needles.

yes. Porch pirates (parcel theft), beggars becoming more persistent/desperate, a lot of car door handle flippers in the early morning, mailbox break-ins

Yes, lots more of it. People seem to be wandering around watching people on a constant basis. My neighbour was broken into the other day and she had only popped out for a regular hour yoga class. I’m really “happy†
that all of my son’s classes are online And therefore he’s home during the daytime. There are also issues because the places where our homeless population spend their day (library and various drop in centres) are very limited in their timings so they have nowhere to go, and this is just set to get worse as it gets colder. I am only five minutes away from down town but I wouldn’t go near it at night for all the tea in China. Lots of skirmish/mugging problems at night, and young men riding small bikes on the pavement very close and making me feel uncomfortable. That being said this is Fredericton... I must be missing this as I don't watch local news, but the Mrs does, and hasn't heard of any of it.
