Hi, Does anybody know if guinea pigs can be brought to Canada when you move? Any advice re transporting them over would be great. Thanks.

We have a similar question about cats. We're looking to move to Calgary in June and need to know about taking our cat with us. How do we transport, is there a quarantine and is it ok to do this?

Hi there, we bought over our cat from the UK no problems, he had to have a rabies shot prior to coming over (although it can be done on arrival, but they will charge you more) and also he had to have a health check prior to the flight just to check that he was fit to fly and that was it, there is no quarantine here because the UK is classed as being rabies free, however if we ever want to take him back to the UK he will have to have a pet passport which involves blood tests and check-ups because as far as I'm aware Canada has rabies. If you don't have this the cat WILL have to go into quarantine for 6 months :( Hope this helps Im sure someone will correct me if Im wrong

Rules and regulations regarding animal imports are covered (rather bizarrely) by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. It would appear that guinea pigs may be brought in ..... http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/.../rodente.shtml

Here is the page for animal imports for those who want to check rules for a specific animal: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/...rt/petse.shtml

We used Ladyhaye when we brought our parrots with us, I think they might specialise in more "ünusual" pets.

They have a good website that you can browse and they were very professional.

Good luck!

You can bring in Guinea Pigs - BUT only with BA or Air Canada - with specially made cages. You need to call the relevant cargo sections.

BA quoted £380 plus £65 for cage for 1 gerbil!
Ac were slightly less.
