petrol prices in vancouver fluctuate daily, usually by a penny or two. outside of the city, prices remain stable (and today were 9 cents cheaper).

why is one prone to change and the other seemingly long term 'set'?

1. We have gasoline
2. Prices fluctuate outside of the city as much as in the city of Vancouver. In the city there is a transit tax of around 5c which ends near Aldergove. Prices can go up and down by 10c in a day.

Up to about 15 years ago prices were pretty stable at 49c a litre. Then BP came to town and opened up ARCO stations and began a price war, with gas dipping to 29c a litre. Ever since it has been up and down like a yo yo across the province.

If you are asking how much is canadian gas?? the it depends on what part of the Country you are in. In my area, it is around $1.00 per litre.
20 years ago it was 42 cents a litre!!

And 40 years ago it was 38 cents a gallon !
It's about $1.10 a litre in N.S. where the price is regulated by the Provincial Government. For whose benefit it's regulated I'm not sure !

well in vancouver right now, petrol is on average about 1.16 per litre. this goes down to about 1.14 in the evenings (if i go out hunting).

thing is, since we got here, the price has crept up on average a penny every fortnight; it is always the priciest in the mornings and on weekends (especially easter).

i appreciate concepts such as local fees, 'supply and demand' and even the likelihood of localised price fixing......

but it just seems weird to me, that despite this 'big city situation', places like squamish have remained ststic at 1.08, at every time of the day, every day since the beginning.

Remember to fill up BEFORE the May 2-4 weekend.... traditionally the largest gouging weekend of the year, or the beginning of "open season" on motorists if you prefer

Since the beginning of when. Last time I went up to Squamish, the price went up between my arriving at lunchtime and leaving at supper time.

Prices vary because they can and around holidays. Diesel used to be cheaper than gas, not there is no telling what it will do. The gas companies spin a different line every time they have to justify their price increases. Unfortunatley they don't bring prices down as fast as they go up.

At least is does come down. Remember after Hurricane Katrina when gas was $1.40+ in places... $1 a litre seems a bargain. There are ways to minimise the hit. Using my Canadian Tire mastercard saves me 8c a litre at the moment, as long as I fill up at crappy tire

We just got a gas bar at the local Costco - price per litre is 3 or 4 cents cheaper than a normal petrol station

I try to fill up in the States when I can, though the price difference isn't that much right now - around $3 a gallon over there....

over in the uk its £1.20 per litre!!

It hit $1.50 around here. I believe we're paying around 97c right now. When it goes up, it's the price of oil, when oil goes down there is another reason to hold the price up.

But you only drive half the difference and in poxy little gas miser vehicles
