We have just arranged to ship our dog (Great Dane) with Par air £2,350 and will be collecting him from Calgary airport. Their agents in Canada are Menzies aviation and they have kindly provided me with the following details for collection. I thought I might share them with you. When the agents quote a cost for collection at their end - bare in mind it is weight by the kilo.

Generally it takes about an hour after aircraft arrival for the cargo to get here due to presentation to Customs prior to coming to our facility.
Our Terminal Service fee for dogs is usually the minimum of $55.00. We also have to collect a Nav Can fee of $5.00. The fees are based on weight and must be paid for in cash.
You need to come to our facility first and collect the documents. Then you have to go to Customs (back at the airport) to get the animal cleared. They will stamp the Airway bill with the Customs Clearance stamp. After this you have to come back to our facility, pay the $55.00 fee plus the $5.00 Nav Can fee and collect your dog.
We handle live animals every day and understand owner anxiety. We will ensure he is given water upon his arrival to our facility.
I regret sadly the process is time consuming and can be frustrating.
Owners are required to take the kennel home with them or pay a disposal fee of $20.00.

The process for when you ship your dog will be as follows. Come to our office and pick up the paperwork for the dog 45-60 minutes after the plane has arrived THEN go to the airport, go through customs (arrivals level, concourse C) to present the paperwork. PLEASE MAKE SURE CUSTOMS STAMPS THE AIR WAYBILL WITH THEIR STAMP AS PROOF OF RELEASE. When done, come back and retrieve your dog noting that there will be roughly $60.00CAD owing in terminal service fees, payable only in cash or debit at our location.
DIRECTIONS:
To get to our office; Take the number 2 highway (Deerfoot Trail) to McKnight Blvd. Take McKnight eastbound and turn left at McCall Way. Follow McCall way to the traffic circle and take the McCall Way turn (after Barlow), continuing on all the way to the large warehouse complex with a blue roof across the street from the WestJet hangar. We are located at door 27.

Hi,
Just to note, the disposal fee for the kennel was $50 when we collected our dog, and also that there were no debit facilities, cash only.
Otherise, she arrived safe and sound and non the worse for her journey.
Best of luck

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get a great dane puppy when you get here? Would save you the hassle and expense of shipping it, plus save the dog the trauma of flying. You can get them from $500 to $800.

Our cats flew into Calgary from Amsterdam, where we had to fly Amsterdam/ London then Calgary. They arrived a few hours after us, and did take about 2 1/2 hours to clear customs. By that time we had been on the go for over 30 hours, but was worth it to get the cats safely here.
They were none the worse for the 10 hr flight, just happy to see us. Mind you, they are seasoned travellers, having went from Jersey, Channel Isles, to Holland, and then to Canada!
