Default Outbound?

Hi all
New to all this and only just starting to think about a move to Canada and therefore in the first throes of reasearching.
Have come across a website for Outbound Publishing who publish a newspaper called Canada News.
Does anyone else read this? Is it useful? Is it worth subscribing?

I have been subscribing to this for about 6 months and it is excellent. I thoroughly recommend it.

They have lots of interesting articles, details of changes in laws, provincial info and readers real life stories etc.

Hello there,

I read the free copy before i emigrated to canada, but i still found the CIC website, reading and listening to canadian news online useful than waiting for the printout of news that came from CIC site anyway.

I guess if you don't have access to the net, and just want all your info in one place, then it might be the thing for you. IMHO i think they are just out to make a quick buck from anxious people willing to emigrate.

Forums like these and reading the CIC website will provide more info and experiences to you. Most of us here have been through the whole thing, so where better to get your info? Whilst we are on this issue, checkout my post under the thread migration to canada in the archives in this room.

We subscibed to Canada News for about a year and found it really useful.

Cant look that bad on your application form as a source of research.

The more research you do and show that you have done, the better.

Yes, I've found these forums to be very useful up to a point but you have to be careful about what you read here because on the odd occasion I've seen some information stated as fact when indeed it has been quite inaccurate. Reading the experience of others is also very useful but again allow a certain amount of caution as it can all be so relative.

We started subscribing long ago when we first looked into moving to Canada and have found it extremely helpful. In fact, my wife and I read it several times over to get as much information as possible out of it.
Yes, I agree with Mick that the CIC website has everything you need, but especially for the news on points and changes, the newspaper goes more indepth. After all, the CIC website is government, and they only tell us what they want us to hear, it's good to read an independant view as well as from emigration experts.
IMHO i think the subscription rate which is under £20 a year is well worth it for all the info. And you can write in and have questions answered by the CIC for free!!

I also agree with Mick that it is essential to gather as much info as you can, but remember that although the internet is a great source of info, not all of it is true - there are no regulations for what people can say on the internet - and in these forums for that matter!!

Hello there,

You are right, it would be silly of you to take all you read here to be the gospel. You have to do your own research too, and visit the place you intend to move to. The subscription of 18 Quid a year is not bad, just over a pound a month. That is more than i pay for my national georghraphical, nature, runners world, and computer magazines every month.

Don't forget too that each province has its own site for newcomers. For example Ontario where i am, has : www.settlement.org
This site is very resourceful, and has loads of information about everything. The individual cities and towns have their own site too. I never try to mislead anyone, i know what its like to be trying to emigrate. Years of research went into the 6 months it took to get my PR.

Spot on! One discussion group I belong to about once a month, sends out a notice giving some form of legal disclaimer

Besides reminding us of the obvious (that the "The views expressed and information exchanged through this list are solely the views and information of the users.") it goes through the the legal use of the internet etc and concludes that

"no one should rely on any information or advice given over the Internet. The user of such information should consider any advice or information received as little more than a starting point for the user's own research. The purpose of this list is to support each other and share information and experiences. Writers hold sole responsibility for the content of their email."

Maybe Ray should put something like this out every so often ??
