OUT OF MY MIND WITH WORRY

in 1998 my son, aged 25 moved to Vancouver and was working as a truck driver, loving his life in Canada, until he had an accident, which has left him pin a wheelchair. Obviously, he could not carry on driving! He returned to England on 2000, but there was nothing here for him. He could not even get accomodation near to family and friends, and early in 2002, he went back to Canada, settling eventually in Winnipeg. He unfortunately, had a collision with a taxi (yes, whilst in his wheelchair). which left his shoulder damaged, meaning that he is not as mobile as he once was. He has been trying to claim from Manitoba Oublic Insurance since 2002. They seem to deny every claim.
Now today he has just found out he is being DEPORTED on Tuesday 13th.
I have spoken to his lawyer in Winnipeg, who says that an appeal will not be considered, his medical funding has been stopped, and his status has been lifted ( whatever that means).
Does anyone know what happens when someone is deported, where do they fly them to, and what happens to the person.

Anyone considering immigration to Canada, Just don't become seriously disabled or you will be deported!!!!!:curse::mad::frown::(:broken_heart::c onfused:

Sorry can not help you but as a citizen of canada you can not be deported so i am assuming he is a perminent resident?

I am currently in Winnipeg and MPI are very much trying to cut down on their claims. But surely if he was paying into insurance or even the victim of someone elses poor driving they have to pay all medical bills plus potential future earnings?

Firstly, sorry to hear about your son's accidents and medical problems. Secondly why is he being deported? AFAIK being deported would happen if he had not maintained his Permanent Residency (for example by not being in the country 2 years out of 5) or if he had been convicted of a crime. This assumes he is a Permanent Resident as opposed to a Canadian Citizen. Assuming he is a UK citizen then he would be deported back to the UK.

Thanks for the reply, He was applying for permanent residence when the accidents happened, so no, he is not a permanent resident! I am really, really worried about the deportation process!!

If he was 'applying for permanent residence' then under what grounds was he here? A visitor? Temporary work permit? Illegally?!! You don't get deported for being ill/injured/a burden on the state if you are here legally. If your WP / Visitor visa is expired then that would be a different issue.

I don't think the process itself is anything to worry about. He'll simply be put on a plane to the UK. Worst case might be that he's held in a detention centre until the 13th, but I doubt it.

There are a number is different issues here. I assume he's being deported because he's in Canada illegally. His present status as a resident of Canada has been lifted (removed) hence the deportation.
Usually, if there is no airline carrier available, he will be taken by a Government of Canada jet, accompanied by Immigration officers to a landing point in the UK. He will be advised of the UK point of entry before he leaves.
Your last comment about being disabled/deported is specious. If you're in Canada legally then you're entitled to all the benefits of the country that that entails. I don't think you are detailing all the facts here.

As far as I am aware, he was on temporary residence, whilst he was working, but now that he's not working he seems to be a burden on the medical services, after his last discharge from hospital, he was frightened to ask for more help as he was worried about the amount of money that care cost, and that it would affect his application for residence!

Exactly. Hes not a PR, he's clearly a burden to the state and not going to get PR as a result. Its sad, but them's the rules.

Is this just another friday afternoon troll I wonder.

Have just clarified the situation. He had a work permit which expired in Nov 07.He was trying to stay on for 'humaritatian reasons' through a lawyer on Winnipeg, but this was denied. He is now trying to appeal, but that leaves one day ( Monday) to lodge the paperwork. He has no criminal convinctions, involvement, but is being treated as such!!!

Legally he technically lost the right to stay in Nov 07

He’s had a year to correct or adjust that status, a grace period from CIC which many countries don’t offer

its now Jan 09

No he's not:curse:, He's being treated as a burden to Canadian tax payers who has no legal status in Canada, from a developed country where there is no threat to his liberty or wellbeing.

Which coincidentally is EXACTLY what he is.

He should return to the UK and make the best of it.
