Our first trip to NS - Report
#1
We have just returned from our first visit to NS and I though I would share it with you guys.
We spent a great 10 days and came back wanting more. We, OH and 2 kids, spent 4 days around Halifax and 6 around Digby. We split them into holiday and reccie
Holiday
Digby and surrounding are was great, did the usual touristy bits that were available for the time of year. Briar island, beach combing, hiking, sledging, Annapolis Royal, Yarmouth, Snowboard lessons at Martock and the fabulous Kejimkujik national park
Reccie
Our aim was to check out the areas around Halifax and look for work. I am a skilled cabinet maker and production manager so I set about finding as many companies as possible I could visit. Prior to leaving and sent out my CV by email, 2 replied and meetings were set up. On our arrival I found the nearest yellow pages and relived it of its pages relating to my line of work and set about calling and just turning up to as many companies as possible. They were all so receptive and nice and even better most were interested in me and I have a few irons in the fire as they say.
We also looked at areas and property and were amazed at what’s on offer. We really liked the areas of Hammonds Plain, Bedford, Fall River and Waverly. Our next trip out there, hopefully May half term, we intend to look at areas up to Porters lake along with schools.
The people were so friendly and my main point I want to make is if you are looking for work just get out there show your face and talk to people, it works.
I am not an expert in any way about NS but I would be happy to help if people have some questions.
Also met up with destinationnovascotia at Heathrow and had a chat about her experiences so far which was great.

So far 2 are looking very positive. I should have more of an idea this time next week.

Great to hear you had a good time and enjoyed Nova Scotia, especially at this time of year. It gets warmer from here on, so you will love it when there are more things that are open and the weather is hot.
Good to hear that the employers were very receptive to your enquiries. I wish you al the best with this.

Sounds great, especially about the work front! Its refreshing to hear that coming in person is still working for people - I have friends who are struggling with the resume/email thing and this shows that the in person thing is effective too. IF you can find the people to listen of course! Which it sounds as if you have.
Good luck, and keep us posted!

Thanks for the positive comments. I will keep you all in the loop.
Good luck J42. As I mentioned don't just stick to the interviews already organised, speak to people when your there and just knock on doors. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Glad it went well. I agree with the Keji Park bit. You should be there is summer, it's wonderful.
