Read Surrey Expat's excellent Wiki article called Scouting Trip-Canada, especially the section entitled Working and Networking.

Sort of..........would be better if you can phone them beforehand, tell them you're coming out between x and x, and ask if you can meet with them. If you just hand out resumes while you're over there you might miss an opportunity - somebody in charge of hiring might be away for example.
Have you looked at the Wiki and read all of the numerous articles on job hunting? If not then grab a cuppa and start reading!! Best of luck, hope you get some positive responses from potential employers.

Hi
We are off to NS next week and we blitzed what seemed most of NS companies in our respectives trades with our resume's.
We have had 3 replies with meetings arranged whilst we are over, so I would agree that you contact potential employers before going aswell as taking resume's with you to hand out/visit potential employers with.
Good luck!

I haven't done this, but I know lots of people on BE have emailed resume's and then followed it up with a phone call and this in some instances has bought a positive response.

Have fun!
