You arrive the week after we're gone. Barrie was one of our potential places to settle. We passed though (thru) there in August 2003 and it was very busy, outer areas were less so and house prices were similar to the burbs of Ottawa. Plus Toronto's only 60 miles away so that's a bonus, well, open to argument...:D

Thanks for that, have considered it, and haven't ruled it out. We'll look around in July and when we land in hopefully, late August early September.
Our kids are actually adults now, 18 and 20, they'll be shoved off and left to their own devices when we get there

It's worth having a look at the dark side but you won't have what is considered to be the main financial advantage for coming here (young kids). Property may be cheaper this side of the river but income tax is rather higher.

It seems everywhere you go these days kids are a tax deductable commodity.

Well as we have no intention or the capability of siring more children we'll keep to the south side.;)

Thanks for that bit of insight:thumbup:

Taking a beeline in July towards Dunrobin, and Dunrobin Shore. Any thoughts on that? Had some great feedback from PaulCall who's in-laws and relatives live around Ottawa, he's off west too.

Would you reckon anywhere is viable as a commute to Kanata/Ottawa provided you live within north of the 417 up to Arnprior and Fitzroy?

You don't normally hit any traffic until Kanata, unless its snowing or heavy rain, then it can get a little slow. Some companies allow flex hours so if you head in for 9 you miss the bad stuff. Arnprior - 45 mins to east end. Fitzroy 35, Dunrobin 10-15 on a bad day. Carleton Place 35, Packenham 35. Rush hour 7-9. Hope that helps.

Thanks again, yes that is a help, Arnprior would be the furthest place we'd consider and even that isn't what I'd call too far to commute.
Cheers:thumbup:

Would anyone mind if I went back and edited my original comment?

(If it wasn't for that pesky Wannabe I wouldn't be in this mess)

Did the article mention the 6 months of "winter hell"

Otherwise known as 'Winterfest' - talk about pigs ears and silk purses - lol :)
