Husband has accepted a job in Ottawa (based in Kanata) I will be staying here in Calgary as son is grade 11. Any recommendations on places to live? We're thinking renting a room will be the cheapest option as our main residence is here in Calgary. Any ideas on the cheapest way to fly home once a month? It's not what we envisaged when we moved here but a job is a job, luckily he used to be in the Navy so I'm used to him being away. Thanks for any advice you can give

Shared Accommodations in Ottawa, ON (not many in Kenata though)
It might be worth your while posting here https://ca.easyroommate.com/
There seems to be a few more available to rent here: Kanata Rooms For Rent, Roommates Wanted in Kanata with this one looking the best http://www.freerentads.com/ottawa-ro...2017798-gST8Nq
As to flights, I doubt if any of them will be particularly cheap unfortunately. Westjet or similar will probably be the only option.

There are apartment blocks in Kanata where you can rent. Also where I live in the north side there are new apartment blocks just built / under construction. I think builders are thinking about the big move of DND to Kanata as well.
This is a new one just built: William’s Court

Or homestay - there seem to be some very reasonably priced ones which could probably be negotiated lower for long stay.

I'm an inspector for a language school so I don't know the site that well. But Homestay is somewhere students can place basically an ad listing what they're looking for and how much they're willing to pay. That's why they rates vary and the currency.

Breakfast is provided and other meals are available on request for an additional cost.
https://www.homestay.com/homestays/s...+2017&guests=1 with prices in Canadian $
I thought this one looked quite reasonable - bedroom, private bathroom and tv room for $20 a night https://www.homestay.com/canada/kana...ll-area-kanata - however, on checking 'more details the price suddenly shot to $75 a night!

Tell him to keep away from anything near a river. There is major flooding in the Ottawa-Gatineau area at the moment.

We are in an airbnb place at the moment. There was a 30% reduction in the fee because we are staying for a full month. It doesn't necessarily mean that they will all offer similar but worth looking at.
