Default Orillia, ON. Anyone know it?

Guys

Orillia is looking to be our final destination.

Does anyone know if it's a bit cr@p or could it offer something to two cynical Brits ?

We're going for a serious visit in a few months, but on our initial 9 hour exhaustive inspection last year, it did look like attractive town with plenty to do for anyone who appreciates the outdoors.

Your thoughts would help me form a picture of this place....

Merci.

Hi

I've been to Orillia a couple of times. Once in winter and in fall. We were with family in Barrie and I gotta say I preferred Barrie but Orillia is really nice. It's on lake Couchiching(sure I've spelt that wrong) and is close to highway network. Midland and Penatang aren't too far away and they're lovely and if you want to go north for about an hour through Muskoka you can visit Algonquin which is simply awesome. All in all I think Orillia is a top place and not sure if you know but Neil Young comes from there.

Good luck

Being Canadian, I can say that Orillia is an OK town, It has grown tremendously in the last few years. I think there is a lot of prospect for it. It is also close to many major towns and cities ( Barrie, Midland, etc.)

btw Neil Young is from Omemee, Ontario not Orillia.

Hey Canuk

I have to apologise and bow to your superior knowledge. I think I'm getting mixed up with Gordon Lightfoot who I'm sure is from Orillia.

Doh!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the best

Hello there!!

We live about 1 1/2 hours away from Orillia. It is up north more so it is considered cottage country. In the winter months, you're bound to get lots of snow. Great for skiing if you are into it. I have never lived there but knew someone that did. There is a Casino there, which drawns many people into the town. I think it was built on or near an Indian reserve??
My parents immigrated us to Whitby, Ontario....close to Lake Ontario! Have you checked out the small towns along the Lake?
Good Luck with your decision.
