Has anyone settled in the Orangeville area and if so what is it like?

We've lived in Canada 38 years .We moved to Orangeville 5 years ago and we love it.We have two English pubs and a shop that sells all English food just in case you get a little homesick.I wish you the all the best in your new life it's the best thing you could have done especially if you have kids.

We are looking at Orangeville as well.

The only downside we heard (from talking to the guy at the British shop) was that they tend to get a lot of snow as they're fairly high up.

But yes - nice place, some groovy little shops and two pubs.

all we need to do now is find a good school for our 12 year old so we can then look for a property nearby

Thats not a bad point snow will be fun as Im sure the roads will not close like they do here

Thanks for that but do you know of any websites that tell you how good the schools are : eg:legue tables on pupil performance ?

School routes are ploughed early and first but that does not mean the school may not be closed - maybe the teachers cannot get in from where they live, etc.

I might be moving with my company in February whats the weather like in Orangeville then will it be freezing :scared:

The two secondary schools in Orangeville are:
Orangeville DSS and Western SS

We live just south east of Orangeville in Caledon and we're about 1400 feet above sea level on top of the escarpment (more than 1000 feet higher than Toronto). During the winter night time lows can be around -30C and daytime highs around -15C. The roads are usually well cleared and everything seems to run fairly normally. Freezing rain can be a problem and the school buses won't usually run when its a factor as the roads can't be cleared of ice. This only happened 3 or 4 times last winter.
Clear blue skies and clean air. It can't be beaten! A good rule of thumb is its 3-4 degrees cooler in Orangeville than Toronto.
