Default Open Work Permit for Spouse

Hi all,

I am filling out forms for TWP. On form I have myself as main applicant and included my wife and 2 daughters. This will cost $600. i.e. ( 4 x $150)

We must fill out seperate form for OH to apply for open work permit. Do we have to pay an extra $150 for this? E-mailed CHC but reply was not so clear

Yes, I am pretty sure you do as it constitutes a separate application. We did when I applied for my Study Permit and my Spouse's Open Work permit at the same time.

In another thread, you said your children's ages were 4 and 2. That being the case, you don't need study permits for them, and you don't have to pay anything for them. Even if you did need study permits for them, the cost would be $125 each.

You are correct in thinking that each work permit costs $150. If you are applying for 2 work permits, you need to pay $300.

As benjy25 said, your spouse should apply for a work permit at the same time as you, and the two applications should be sent in one package.

Oh yes, in case I have caused any confusion, you do need to list your children as accompanying dependents on your work permit application form. That is, even if you don't have to pay anything for them, you still need to list them.

Here is Citizenship and Immigration Canada's web page for calculating application fees.

We didn't apply for an OWP, but when we arrived in Canada, the immigration officer said she could upgrade my wife's visitor permit to an OWP there and then! After nearly 24 hours of travelling, we declined as we wanted out of the airport asap!

Yep! $300 sounds about right to me! We were in the same situation, husband had the job offer, and I applied for an spousal open work permit. Originally I thought I had to apply for permits for the kids (both under school age), but I don't need to worry about that until the eldest reaches school age!

My advice is if you are permitted & able to apply for spousal WP at the same time as principle WP do it. We applied for spousal WP in-land (Vegriville, AB) and it took many months to process.

I have a spousal work permit. WE paid for OH TWP @$150 and put our only daughter of 9 on that for a Study permit @$125 and mine was on a separate application for an open work permit @150
Hope this helps
Julie
